*Updated on 10/18 to add photos of all the Winter/Holiday 2015 Matte Velvets to show with top coat as well!*
Zoya has released the Winter/Holiday 2015 Matte Velvet collection recently and I have all 6 shades to show you, and a set to giveaway tonight!
For me personally, the colors in this collection were really nice choices BUT I do wish the formula was the same as the original matte velvet collection. I also wish some of the colors were further from shades in the original. They aren’t so close that I would label them “dupes” but a little more distance would have been nice. I do plan on having some sort of comparison post up eventually.
When the collection was announced, there was a code to purchase all 6 shades for $40 (full price is actually $60) so I jumped on it since bloggers hadn’t heard anything and I didn’t want to miss out in case there were no samples for this collection. After I purchased though, samples rolled out. Instead of reselling what I purchased I decided a giveaway was a little more fitting.
Let’s take a look at the lineup and then we’ll move onto the giveaway!
Amal
Zoya Winter/Holiday 2015 Matte Velvet Collection Amal Swatch
Amal is a classic crimson red with a ruby red pearl flecks mixed in. I used 2 coats for these photos, no top coat.
Amal With Top Coat
Zoya Winter/Holiday 2015 Matte Velvet Collection Amal With Top Coat Swatch
Aspen
Zoya Winter/Holiday 2015 Matte Velvet Collection Aspen Swatch
Aspen is a sparkling arctic white with a micronized diamond pearl fleck. I used 2 coats, no top coat.
I found Aspen to be the “odd man out” formula wise. This had a ton of flecks in it and didn’t want to self level completely. It dried faster than the other 5 within the collection.
Aspen With Top Coat

Honor
Zoya Winter/Holiday 2015 Matte Velvet Collection Honor Swatch
Honor is an emerald green matte with emerald pearl flecks mixed in. I used 2 coats, no top coat for these photos.
Honor With Top Coat
Zoya Winter/Holiday 2015 Matte Velvet Collection Honor With Top Coat Swatch
Iris
Zoya Winter/Holiday 2015 Matte Velvet Collection Iris Swatch
Iris is a shade I had the most hope for, but the formula let me down a little. I found it dried fast but also applied thinner than others. You can see where I picked up the brush to make another stroke and it overlapped. Color wise – loved it. Application wise – disappointing for me.
Iris is a deep amethyst matte with a fuchsia pearl fleck. I used 2 coats, no top coat for these photos.
Iris With Top Coat
Zoya Winter/Holiday 2015 Matte Velvet Collection Iris With Top Coat Swatch
Sue
Zoya Winter/Holiday 2015 Matte Velvet Collection Sue Swatch
Sue is one of my favorites of the new Matte Velvets and the formula reminded me a lot of the originals. Sue is a soft champagne gold with a multi-hued oyster shell pearl fleck. I used 2 coats, no top coat for these photos.
Sue With Top Coat
Zoya Winter/Holiday 2015 Matte Velvet Collection Sue With Top Coat Swatch
Yves
Zoya Winter/Holiday 2015 Matte Velvet Collection Yves Swatch
Yves is a deep sapphire matte with a blue pearl fleck. I used 2 coats, no top coat for these photos.
I would caution you to use a good base coat with this. I used one, and when I removed the polish my cuticles had a light blue staining from removal. That leads me to believe this could stain your nails without a base coat.

Zoya Winter/Holiday 2015 Matte Velvet Collection Overview
I do like this collection. I like the color choices overall and I like the flecks within each shade. Formula wise though, some are good, some are so so. I do wish the formulas were as lush as the original matte velvets, but they are still workable. With the original matte velvets, the dry time was a bit slower so you had time to work with it. The Winter/Holiday 2015 ones don’t really give you the time luxury though and dried a lot faster.
My favorites were Sue, Amal and despite the dry time, I love the color of Iris.

I have to agree with you that I was disappointed to find these colors similar to the previous collection. Not surprisingly, I want to try the blue one. :)
Please pick me for this giveaway! I never win anything and this wild be so wonderful! I love aspen and honor beautiful for the holidays. I have been following you on Instagram for some time now and am a big fan of your work. Please pick me :) thank you for this giveaway!
Sue and Aspen are my favorites….is the Pinterest URL your user name? I wrote down karynkirke@ because that’s what is says on my profile page….so confused :/
If you go to your pinterest account, the URl should look something like this https://www.pinterest.com/cosmeticsanc but with your user name instead of mine :) No worries though! If it verified it with what you entered then you are good!
I’m really excited to try Honor. I love the color green and this polish just looks beautiful.
I think I’m most interested in Sue. It just looks like a really nice, clean color!
Definitely a polish named Sue. I usually don’t buy Zoya (their narrow brush does not agree with my double-wide nails!), but I think I will be picking Sue up if I don’t win this contest :)
I really want the blue, green, purple and red ones. Very pretty! Thanks for doing a giveaway.
I am not usually drawn to gold color but Sue is very pretty. Honor is also lovely, greens are my favorite :)
I really like the colors in this collection! I’m most excited to try Yves and Iris! Thanks for the great review and swatches, and for the giveaway. :)
This collection is very beautiful)
Honor for me is very nice.
Thank you so much both for swatches and a chance to win this collection.
I have a special fondness for green polishes so Honor is the shade I am most looking forward to trying.
En cours de projet je suis de la partie depuis de nonbreuses années .
Quelle est la frabriction d’origine ? Merci
Looking at them in person, in the bottle, Aspen was the one that caught my attention. In swatches, I think I like Honor the best!
Love the blue one,
Hmm, somehow I don’t like the finish as much as I like my old Velvets from Zoya. But I mean I can’t really decide that just from photos I guess :) I like that there are more colors now with this collection and my favourites would be Yves and Aspen :)
iris is still my favorite shade, though perhaps with a dose of cautious optimism now.
These colors are gorgeous! Thanks for your helpful and honest reviews!
Honor is really pretty and stood out to me. And Iris as well. Great swatches!! :) Thanks for the giveaway, I am not sure if it actually entered me as I could only do one of the three mandatory choices which is to comment. :) Thanks for sharing.
Katie B.
You are still entered – each entry option gives you 1 entry!
I love them all. But my favorite color is Yves. I love all blues. And that one is very pretty. I love the flakies they added to them. I would love to see them all with a topcoat to see if it brings out the shimmery flakies!
Even though it may be a stainer, I am extremely excited for Yves!
I would die for that blue!!!
I love the look of Aspen! Thanks so much for the giveaway!
I love how Aspen looks! stinks that the formula isn’t the best
I’m most excited to try yves!
I usually do not give white polishes a second look…but your swatches were SO great, that SUE was BEAUTIFUL! I think I would wear it alone and do some pretty winter stamping over it!
I’m most excited about Iris (bummer to hear you had issues with it) but really, I want to try all of them because I freaking love the matte velvets!
THANK YOU! I’ve been dying to see your swatches since you first announced on FB that you had the collection! I just received the white and blue yesterday, and of course those are the ones that gave you the most trouble LOL! However, since you have warned of the issues, I am looking forward to wearing them :)
I’m not normally a green fan but Honor is really pretty! It would be unique in my collection so I might just have to pick it up.
I’m excited to try “Sue”.
I’ll probably get Sue and Amal and I’m curious to see what Yves looks like with a topcoat. Might get the rest eventually.
Sue is definitely my fav too. I think Aspen looks nice with the texture, but it’s not a very wearable color.
I am most interested in trying Honor. I love green nail polish and this one looks stunning!
Aspen and Honor
Sue is my favorite; simple and sparkly. It love a lighter polish when I am wearing black, or deep colors!
I’m most excited to try Sue & Aspen – I think they’ll be great colors for this winter and super sparkly with a topcoat!
I’m excited about all of them!!
My favorite is honor! I love green and this one is different from any I have.
Love the Yves. The blue is beautiful. Thanks so much.
I really need Aspen as I don’t have a lot of white polishes. Great giveaway. Thanks!
I LOVE purples but that green Honor is divine!
Sue is so pretty.
But my favorite color is Yves.
I would love to try out the Amal color. It’s beautiful. Thank you!
Aspen and Iris! They are all beautiful though!
I think my favorite would be honor, bit aspen is a close second!!
I’m excited to try all of them! I’ve never had any of the matte velvets. They look great for this season, and I love the flecks.
I would love to try Sue. I think it’s a lovely shade and would look great with my skin tone.
Amal looks the most different from the previous Zoya Mattes and I own all of them. My other choice would be Aspen.
I’m sooooo excited about the whole collection!! I love Zoya nail polishes to pieces (and it doesn’t help I’m a nail polish junkie, lol). I’m most excited about Yves because it reminds me of gorgeous summer nights in my town.. A-mazing!!
I’d love to see Yves with a glossy top coat! I’m sure I’ll get the blue and purple polish as I tend to do from all of their collections.
I really like Aspen and Sue. Definitely a downer to hear that Aspen doesn’t have a decent formula though.
Thanks for the giveaway! I’m most excited for Apen because I’m a total sucker for soft, matte whites, especially during the winter!
I can’t wait to try out the color Honor. Such a perfect emerald green for both fall and winter holiday seasons!
Thank you for the top coated swatches! I really like Amal, Honor and Aspen.
Aspen and Sue stand out, possibly because they are unlike any of the previous mattes. I think they both are gorgeous, sort of like jewelry on your nails. Thanks for the swatches, and for the give-away.
Zoya never let’s me down with the Mattes! These are such beautiful colors. I am really sorry I missed the sale on this set! $60 is a bit steep for me right now, but this set is definitely going on my Christmas list.
I like Amal.
My favorite polish is Yves, thank you for this nice giveaway
I like Sue the best!
Thank you for this giveaway!!!
Honor is definitely my favorite color from the holiday/winter set! So beautiful!
I absolutely love Iris!!!
I love them all but I think Aspen is my favorite!
I really want to try Aspen. For some reason, I’m drawn to it. Looks like snowflakes on the nail.
I love Aspen
Ooo, I’m liking iris :)
While choosing favorites is always difficult for me, I would have to say Sue and Amal are my top picks. That’s just by looking at the photos though. Of course I would love to see all of the shades in real life!
[…] reviewed the new Zoya Winter/Holiday 2015 Matte Velvets Collection a couple days ago, and I was curious how some of the new shades compared to the old ones, so I […]
Yves and Aspen look really lovely. I don’t nomally dig white, but Aspen looks so pretty.
Iris, Honor, Aspen…if I have to chose, but I like every single one of them, matte or not, they are beautiful.
I can’t wait to try Yves! <3

Amal is my favorite. Very pretty red!
Love the Amal. Beautiful colors!!!
Very good colors for Cristmass :)
I love the Aspen. I usually don’t like white, but this looks very nice. I wish you’d do a post about how you apply your nail polish. It always looks so nice and perfect. What are your tricks?
Nice review. i adore zoya polishes. They are simply awesome!
I have not tried these type of Zoyas before and am anxious to try Sue. It looks like the perfect holiday color.
Picking favorites is tough- these are all so lovely! Amal and Honor are beautiful jewel-toned holiday colors and the matte finish adds to the allure. I love them with a top coat as well! Aspen and Sue are gorgeous and glammy and holiday-party-perfect. Irish and Yves would look amazing with an lbd. Scenestealers. [Ultimate Top Pick: Honor. Gorgeous and holiday ready. Looks like holly leaves under a gentle frost.]
Amal and Honor, ig I need to choose, but all of them are beautyfull <3
I would love to try the Aspen!!
Sue and Yves are definitely my favorite of the bunch! I have been waiting so long for Zoya to make a matte Blue! you really can’t expect no staining with that one, so it is not a deal breaker for me!
I want to try Yves.
