Valentine’s Day is not always about chocolate and kisses. Love has many faces and it gets even worse when it is one sided. Superficially Colorful Lacquer’s Valentine’s Day collection is inspired by a few songs from her personal playlist and it is an ode to the troubled, one sided love.
We have a slightly different spin on Valentine’s Day with this 5 piece collection that has a nice mix of finishes for this upcoming holiday!
Never There
Never There is inspired by the song of the same name by Cake. I do recall this song being very popular when I was a sophomore in high school back in 1998.
This is a silver holographic shade with a touch of pink to it. I was happy to see that even though it is a metallic type shade that the brush strokes were almost nonexistent. I used 2 coats for these photos.
Tainted Love
Tainted Love is inspired by the song of the same name by Gloria Jones (1964). It was covered by Soft Cell as well many years later (1981).
Tainted Love is a tainted pink polish that is a duo-chrome which shifts according to the light between green and violet. I used 2 coats for these photos.
Foolish Heart
Foolish Heart was inspired by the song I Was A Fool done by Tegan & Sara in 2013.
This is the thermal shade of the collection! This goes from a beautiful dark crimson blue-ish mulberry red when cold to a fire red when warm. These next few photos are when cold (including the one above) and then I will show Foolish Heart when warm.
Don’t Leave Me This Way
Don’t Leave Me This Way is inspired by the song of the same name by the Communards in 1986.
Don’t Leave Me This Way is described as a red-orange crelly (crème/jelly) with matte red glitter of different sizes and just a little bit of red matte hearts glitter. Hesitant and unfinished, stuck with a broken heart between the orange and the red.
I used 2 coats for these photos.
I Will Survive
I’m not sure if this song actually needs any introduction! I Will Survive was still being played at my high school dances and I recently heard it at my son’s school as well! I Will Survive was inspired by the incredibly popular song by Gloria Gaynor in 1978! Now a Cake song was mentioned earlier in the post – and if you didn’t know they also redid this song back in 1996.
I Will Survive is described as a dark berry red jelly with holographic glitter in different sizes. Thin and fragile but uncompromisingly strong. I used 2 coats for this fabulous shade!
This is also a fabulous shade when you add a matte top coat!
Overview
I love the spin on this Valentine’s Day collection since it isn’t always roses and chocolates. I have several friends that would get together and do a big singles dinner to celebrate the fact they were single for this holiday and it was always a smashing hit. I also love that Superficially Colorful Lacquer has all different finishes for these shades and there really is a little something for everyone.
Price: $9.00 Each or Full Collection for $42.00

Gorgeous colors
Beautiful collection! Never There, Don´t Leave Me This Way and I Will Survive will go to my wish list!
Beautiful swatches, as always! I love the thermal, but I hate that the color change doesn’t last forever.
Stunning collection! I don’t care much for the first two, but adore the rest :)
All of these are pretty. I like Cake and Foolish Heart the best.
Foolish Heart and Don’t Leave Me This Way are my faves! SO pretty for the impending holiday ;)
