Flash & Go Express
I have something a little different on the blog this morning. The Silk’n Flash & Go Express. This is a hair removal device, and I will admit I was incredibly intimidated by it when I first received it.
When I was first asked to review it, I was excited. When the device arrived, I was thinking “What have I done?” because I’ve never used anything like this – I’ve always done either straight shaving or I used a hair removal cream. Part of my scaredy cat behavior was because as a child, I remember my mom using “hair removal devices” and seeing her with watery eyes and taking deep breathes before using it each time because of the level of pain it caused. I don’t remember which device she had – but it scarred me a little.
I was interested in trying this out, despite those memories, because I suffer from PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and unfortunately one of the many fun symptoms is extra body hair. Not something I usually discuss – but it’s part of who I am. PCOS has a lot of unwelcome symptoms, but it’s something you just deal with. Because of that though, any way to help reduce or eliminate some of those symptoms is something I’m willing to try.
Let’s take a look at the device and then I’ll talk about my results.
The Silk’n Flash & Go Express is a little larger than my hand. While it is larger than I expected, it was easy to hold and comfortable.
The device is to be used basically anywhere from the cheekbones down on your body. When using it for the first time, you should be clean shaven and free of lotions, powders, deodorant, oils or any other product you may apply to your skin.
Silk’n Flash & Go Express has 5 energy levels for use. The energy level refers to the intensity of the light pulse that is projected on your skin during use. Silk’n hair removal devices are based on HPL™ (Home Pulsed Light) technology which is a proprietary and patented technology for long-term hair removal. HPL™ is safe and effective for long term hair removal because it uses optical light energy. The light energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair shaft and transformed into heat. This heat disables hair growth for permanent hair removal while leaving the surrounding skin unaffected.
I started with Level 1 (which is recommended by Silk’n for the first use) and I’ve been using it for 2 months and am comfortable using Level 3 now.
I have incredibly light skin and very dark hair, which is ideal for a device like this.
The “pulse” button to activate the device is located on the side of the device. It’s flush with the device and easy to press. I didn’t find my hand cramping or the device becoming uncomfortable to hold while in use.
This is the top portion of the device that emits the light pulse. There is also a built-in skin color sensor which prevents the device from turning on if the skin tone is too dark to treat.
According to their website – the Silk’n Flash & Go Express works best on light brown to black hair and light to medium skin tones. The Silk’n hair removal devices all use Pulsed Light Technology, commonly known as IPL in professional clinics. Pulsed Light utilizes the absorption and reflection of light to selectively target the pigmented hair. The hair must be dark enough to absorb the light emitted by the Silk’n Flash & Go device, the light absorbed heats up the dark hair ultimately burning and damaging the follicles. The skin in the area being treated must be light enough to safely and sufficiently reflect the light emitted by the device to prevent the pigment in the skin from burning instead of the hair.
The Flash & Go includes 3 plug adaptors to accommodate European, Asian and North American electrical outlets. This way you actually can travel with it and not worry about it.They are easily interchangeable by simply sliding the ‘OPEN’ button and removing the plug adaptor and replacing it with the correct plug adaptor for the area in which you are in by clicking it into the plug fitting.
All of this comes in a convenient carrying case with a zipper closure.
My Final Thoughts On The Silk’n Flash & Go Express
I’ve now been using the Silk’n Flash & Go Express for almost 2 months with positive results. Is my hair gone? No. However, the hair definitely grows finer and at a reduced rate. Because I have PCOS I didn’t think I would see much in the way of results, but I have. I started off using the device once every 2 weeks (as instructed) and am still doing that. Eventually I should be able to move to once a month. My hair (especially on my legs) is thick, dark and grows at an absurd rate, so to notice it growing in slower and sparser was a freaking miracle to me. According to their website it can take up to 6 months of regular treatment for full results, but again, because I have PCOS I do expect it to take longer for me.
I currently use Silk’n Flash & Go Express on my upper lip, armpits, legs and bikini area.
Is there a pain factor? No, I haven’t felt any pain since I started using it and I haven’t experienced any adverse effects either.
Overall I’m happy with my results and hope that with continued use I can get some of this hair under control without

I use the Flash n Go from this company and absolutely love it! Like you said, it makes the hair grow backer finer and so much slower, which is why I love it!
Yes! Even though the hair isn’t gone, it’s already done so much more than I expected to!
Sounds very intriguing! I hope they also come out with a home IPL to get rid of dark spots since the technology must be very similar if not the same
I’m sure it’s just a matter of time with the way technology is now
I also suffer from PCOS and it’s incredibly difficult dealing with all the symptoms, but the hair thing might be the worst in my book. I might look into trying this! Thanks for the review!
I think the hair portion of the symptoms hit me the hardest. I can shave my legs and be prickly and “5 o’clock leg shadows” by mid day.
I have PCOS too so anything that decelerates growth sounds like a godsend to me!
It’s really amazing how many people have PCOS, I didn’t know anyone that did until I found out I had it.
Hmmmm I’ve not been diagnosed with PCOS, but I suspect I have it. This is worth looking into for me.
I didn’t realize I had it for a long time, and after having my son – it kicked my hormones into overdrive and everything just went to hell. With or without though – this is definitely worth looking into
I’m impressed that you can use it on your upper lip without pain. Most people who test it only talk about body use but I need it for facial use.
Nice to know this somehow worked for you!
I am always leery of these kinds of devices after my mom and tried one (when I was a teen) and the results were mostly just a lot of pain. Glad to hear this one is effective though, and not as ouchy!
I have a similar at-home IPL hair removal device and can’t live without it. Whoever invented these things must have been a genius!
This sounds pretty impressive. The fact that you can remove facial hair without pain makes this sound like a great product!
It feels so good when you find something that helps make you feel great and makes your beauty life a little easier and more pleasant. I’m so glad that this is working so well for you.
Hey,
are you still using this prodcut?
if so, how are the results?
i am a university student. i dont have that much money to blow on professional hair removal so i was wondering if this would be a better alternative as it is cheaper as well.
Ive ordered it already and it should come in, in a couple of days.
But would appreciate an honest response as i am not the ideal skin colour candidate . I am medium brown skin tone and dark hair. i think the machine should work on my skin tone still. but if it didnt work too well for you i would rather look into something else and save my money
