A few of my reviews have fallen behind (seems to be story of my life) but my grandfather passed away last weekend and I needed a little time off. I have a little catching up to do, so you’ll see more posts coming out this week. To get back into things, I have the Shimmer Me Box January 2018.
The constant makers in the Shimmer Me Box are Colors by Llarowe, Tux Polish and Native War Paints. Each month will have a guest maker, and the January 2018 guest maker is Colores de Carol!
The Shimmer Me Box January 2018 theme is Winter Wonderland. We have 2 thermals, a Wintery blue and a deep vampy shade all with different elements, but one thing in common: SHIMMER!
Let’s take a look!
Colores de Carol – Ice Queen
Colores de Carol is this month’s guest maker and she brought us a gorgeous turquoise creme with gold shimmer and a fairly subtle scattered holographic. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Colors By Llarowe – Frozen Village
Colors by Llarowe brings us a thermal named Frozen Village. This is a purple (when cold) to hot pink (when warm) with blue and pink shimmer flecks mixed in. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Native War Paints – A Cold Day in Texas
Native War Paints also brought us a thermal with A Cold Day In Texas! This is a dusty blue (when cold) to light nude (when warm) with bronze and blue flakes, gold shimmer and scattered holographic. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Tux Polish – Above the Mountains
Tux Polish brings us a deeper shade with Above The Mountains! This is a black holo jelly base with red shimmer, scattered holographic and blue micro flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Shimmer Me Box January 2018 Overview
All 4 of these shades applied beautifully and I loved the addition of 2 thermals to the box. I’m noticing thermals making a comeback lately and I kind of love it. Not that they ever entirely went away – but the request for them had died down quite a bit over the last couple years. In the past 6 months I have seen more and more come out.
Price: $36.00

A Cold Day In Texas!!! I WANT! I am in love at how it looks in the warm stage, especially those photos you took. With the sandy color showing through the gorgeous blue areas of color, with the blue flakies, gold shimmer and holo. And I am dying – no way can I afford buying a box for that one color. I know I can try to resell the others, but still hate the concept, especially if they don’t sell. I will just have to keep my eyes peeled for someone else selling it.
Hopefully you can find it! I usually find odds and ends from boxes in places like NNR! It is a beautiful shade though!
I am so very sorry to hear about your grandfather. I felt like I lost a good part of my history at the time my grandmother, who I was close to, died. She had such a well-lived life and it was fascinating to hear her stories. She figures in a lot of my childhood. I am sorry about not mentioning this on my earlier post, but I was stunned at the beauty of that polish that everything else fled out of my brain at the time.
It’s quite alright Lara! All of my grandmothers have passed on over the years, but all my grandfather’s were still remaining. He’s the first grandpa I lost.
