Polished Gamers Box | World of Warcraft

by Lisa Heath

Press Sample of the Polished Gamers Box
World of Warcraft

I have a new-to-me box to share on the blog today! We’re going to be looking at the Polished Gamers Box and this month the theme is World of Warcraft.

It’s no secret that I play World of Warcraft. I’ve been playing since 2005, which is when I was pregnant with my son. I started playing because I was simply too sick to leave the house at that time (morning sickness SUCKED during my pregnancy, and lasted the full 9 months) so I had to find something to do to keep me busy.

This next part will be gibberish to those who don’t know the game at all.

About 12 years ago I was in a fairly hardcore raiding guild, and I was the guild officer that recruited new raiders. I would review their applications on our website (our guild was Impure) and contact them if I liked their application. One morning I “interviewed” a guy who wanted to fill a Warlock position we had open for raiding. We chatted online a bit, and he ended up joining us.

Over the next few months I went through leaving my husband (which was in the works for a bit already), and shortly after that, the Warlock and I became friends online. Then moved to texting and talking on the phone a bit here and there.  A little over 10 years ago, I met that Warlock in person and… he moved in with me and the rest is history (it was Nick if you haven’t figured that out yet) and we’re still together.

Every other year World of Warcraft releases a new expansion to the game, so Nick and I generally take that week off and play together in game. It’s how we met, we have a lot of online friends we play with, so it’s fun for us – but also a special reminder since it’s technically where we met.

We no longer do the raiding thing on a serious level, but we have a group of WoW friends that we go in and raid with often when we’re all online.

So there you go, the story of how Nick and I met, and a little backstory on why I am excited to be doing this box. Lately Nick and I have been dabbling more in Classic WoW that released not too long ago and it’s been fun going back to when things were a little harder and nothing sparkles.

Oh and just mentioning, while I have played Alliance before (briefly) I’ve primarily played Horde characters for the last 15 years.

Anyways – let’s talk a little about the Polished Gamers Box, then move into the swatches!

The Polished Gamers Box is a game themed box featuring several makers each month. Each box will have a gaming related theme and feature different types of indie products that include nail polish, nail care, body care, wax, and other handmade items.

While it’s called a ‘Box” you get to pick and choose the individual items you want. If you want 10 of the same polish – have at it.. you can do that. If you want 1 of each item, you’re more than welcome to do that as well. Some items may be capped, and that info should be under each listing below – but you can also find it on the website.

The box will launch on the 15th of each month, and will be available for a 5 day preorder window. The turn around time will be approximately 2-3 weeks after the box preorder ends on the 20th of each month.

Ready to jump in? I’ll have links and other info at the bottom of the post! For most inspirations – I will be adding in links to images or videos for a better visual of what the inspiration is, mainly for those that don’t know WoW very much.

3Cheers4Ears | Horde Shield Phone Grip

Inspiration: Horde Shield from WoW

Description: 3Cheers4Ears has 2 phone grips for us, one is Horde (shown here!) and one is Alliance (shown next.) Phone Grips makes it easier to hold your phone, or use it as a kickstand. It pops out to grip with your fingers, and when done using, just pop it back down and it lays flush with your case/phone.

They attach easily to your phone with a thin adhesive layer at the base of the grip. It can be removed from your phone and placed on a different phone if needed. They are small and sturdy and I almost always have one on my phone case (lately most are from 3Cheers4Ears!)

The Horde Shield is a wood looking shield with a red Horde symbol painted on.

Price: $20.00 | Cap: 25

3Cheers4Ears | Alliance Shield Phone Grip

Inspiration: Alliance Shield from WoW

Description: 3Cheers4Ears has 2 phone grips for us, one is Horde (shown above) and one is Alliance (shown here!) Phone Grips makes it easier to hold your phone, or use it as a kickstand.

The Alliance Shield is a granite looking shield with a blue Alliance symbol painted on.

Price: $20.00 | Cap: 25

Atomic Polish | Ragnaros

Inspiration: Ragnaros, The Firelord

Description: Ragnaros is the final big boss in Molten Core. Ragnaros is a warm red jelly base loaded with red to bronze to copper micro flakes and gold flakes and shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

While this is a jelly, it borders on crelly with the opacity. I probably could have easily done 2 coats, but I wanted more flakes. The base is a great balance for reaching opacity while still leaving flakes and shimmer visible.

Price: $11.00 | Cap: None

Chirality | Tonal Shift Acetone Additive Duo

Inspiration: Alliance and Horde

Description: Acetone Additive is a moisturizing additive for acetone to make nail polish removal less harsh on your skin and nails. Just shake the bottle of Tonal Shift to ensure all the nourishing oils are mixed, pour the entire bottle into 6-8 ounces of acetone. Then swirl the acetone bottle to mix.

I live by acetone additive for blogging, While I do add it to pure acetone remover for clean up, I most generally add it to Zoya Remove+ remover, which already has some moisture benefits – so this amps it up even more. If you are like me and use a remover like Remove+, then shake the additive bottle and pour in about half first to try – then add more as needed. Since I use so much remover, I need the added oomph, but if you use it less than I do – you may not need the full bottle of additive.

With this listing you get both Horde and Alliance scented Tonal Shift. While I play Horde, I have to say – Alliance might be my favorite of the 2 scents.

Horde: combines your favorite peppermint bark with blood orange. For this one, peppermint is the power player scent, which I love (seriously – huge mint fan over here) I can smell the blood orange, but it’s more lingering after the peppermint chills out a bit. It’s a nice scent and reminds me of those minty body washes that give you a nice little “WOAH!” feeling in the early hours.

Alliance: a blend of citrus, evergreens, with fresh and frosted cranberries. The evergreens is the power player in this scent and what I smell the most, but I do detect a hint of citrus and cranberries. It actually almost reminds me of a cologne that’s mellowed out with fruity zing. It’s oddly soothing and it’s why I actually pick it as my favorite of the 2… it vaguely reminds me of a cologne Nick used to wear.

Price: $8.00 | Cap: 50 Duos

Color Spectrum Polish | Cataclysm

Inspiration: Cataclysm scene

Description: Cataclysm was the third major expansion for the World of Warcraft game! Cataclysm is an ocean blue metallic like base loaded with gold shimmer, blue sparks, magenta holo glitter and green to purple shifting ultrachrome chameleon flakes. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This shade is super shimmery and while it looks slightly textured, it actually is incredibly smooth to the touch.

Price: $10.00 | Cap: 40

Copacetic Cosmetics | LEEEROY JENKINS! (Thermal)

Inspiration: Leeroy Jenkins and all of his glory … this is too funny not to link the Video for this inspo (some language)

Description: LEEEROY JENKINS! is a thermal blue (cold) to white (warm) jelly base with red metallic flakes, holo blue hex, gold holo micro shreds and gold flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Due to the flakes and glitters, this does have a bit of texture and may need 2 coats of top coat for this shade.

Price: $8.00 | Cap: 20

Ethereal Lacquer | Huntress

Inspiration: Huntress Night Elves

Description: Huntress is a darkened, semi sheer chartreuse base with a strong green to violet and orange multichrome shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

The green and orange shifts are the most visible, the violet peeks out but it’s a bit more subtle.

Price: $12.50 | Cap: 60

Fangirl Polish | Declare Your Allegiance

Inspiration: WOW factions

Description: “For the Horde!” … or perhaps… “For the Alliance!” Declare your allegiance and champion your faction’s cause with this magnet set featuring both, the Horde and the Alliance. (*cough* For The Horde)

Each set contains 2 magnets, each are resin coated with a small neodymium magnet on the back.

These are very cute little magnets that would be great as gifts or to keep for yourself.

Price: $10.00 | Cap: 12 Sets

Indie by Patty Lopes | Legion

Inspiration: Warcraft Legion

Description: Legion is the 6th expansion set to the game. Legion is a medium-deep green jelly base with coppery shimmer, silver micro holo glitters, and iridescent flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

The jelly base floats the flakes and glitters nicely, so you should only need 1 coat of top coat to smooth this over.

Price: $11.00 | Cap: 50

Jewelry by RPF | Glitter Necklace based on Silverian Dreamer

Inspiration: Photo of Silverian Dreamer

Description: This necklace uses three different polishes. It starts with a clear base with blue, black and gray matte glitter then comes some sparkly electric blue glitter and gold shimmer and it ends with a teal creme. The hand painted glass cabochon is set in a gray silver 1″ round pendant and it comes with an 18″ black faux suede necklace with a 2″ silver tone chain extender. The pendant is made from a zinc alloy metal and is lead and nickel free.

This is a beautifully done pendant and I like the matte glitters against the deep background and shimmer. Goes with a lot of casual outfits, so I’ll be wearing this quite a bit!

Price: $12.00 | Cap: 22

Moon Shine Mani | Shadowlands

Inspiration: Shadowlands Expansion, launching Summer/Fall 2020

Description: Shadowlands is the next expansion coming up! Nick and I are ready and waiting for it! Shadowlands is a soft blue grey crelly with a purple to blue flecks, and red to gold to green shifting iridescent flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $12.00 | Cap: None

Psyche Minerals | Night Elves

Inspiration: Tyrande Whisperwind

Description: Night Elves is a loose eyeshadow that’s a medium, cool toned purple with blue to purple color shifting sparkles. This has incredible pigmentation and the sparkles are nicely done. They aren’t like glitter sparkles, but very tiny little sparks of color.

I swatched it on my arm to show it and the sparks are so beautiful – even more so in person.

Price: $7.50 | Cap: None

Red Eyed Lacquer | You Are Not Prepared

Inspiration: Illidan

Description: You Are Not Prepared is a mint greenish teal topper with blue to green iridescent shreds and green shimmers. While it is a topper, I did 3 thin coats on it’s own and really loved it this way!

Price: $10.00 | Cap: None

Sassy Cats Lacquer | Queen of Zandalari

Inspiration: Talanji

Description: Queen of Zandalari is also a topper that I will be showing on it’s own, because it was too pretty not to. This is a matte flake topper with blue shimmer, gold flakes, as well as three different ultra chrome shifting chameleon flakes that show a green to cyan to blue to purple shift, a purple to copper to gold shift and a blue to green to purple shift. I did 3 thin coats alone for these photos and 2 coats of top coat to smooth. The final 3 photos show this shade over black.

Price: $11.00 | Cap: 30

Treo Lacquer | Illidan (Thermal)

Inspiration: Inspired by Illidan Stormrage, Night Elf turned Demon, the Betrayer, Lord of the Outland, and Master of the Black Temple.

Description: Illidan is a blackened plum (cold) to orchid purple (warm) thermal with deep green holo glitters in micro to medium sizes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

The official description does say black to purple thermal, but to my eye, the cold state looked more of a blackened plum or blackened eggplant like color. Either way – it’s a great polish to represent Illidan.

Price: $11.00 | Cap: 50

Twisting Nether Lacquer | Dreadsteed

Inspiration: Warlock Dreadsteed Mount

Description: Dreadsteed isa gunmetal jelly base loaded with red to orange ultra chrome chameleon flakes, orange to gold cyrstal flakes and red to orange to green iridescent glitters, as well as some scattered holo. I used 3 thin coats and glossy top coat for these photos.

Price: $11.00 | Cap: 50

The voice of Illidan, Liam O’Brien, is one of the cast members on Critical Role, too. :D
