Happy Tuesday! I have a few posts going up today, but we’re gonna kick things off with the Polished Gamers Box May 2020 Sega vs Nintendo!

So last time I did a Polished Gamers Box was the World of Warcraft one in January. Now we’re in May and the items offered have doubled. I wasn’t originally signed up to blog this one, but I got a Facebook message asking if I’d take it on… so I figured “why not?” and here we are.

The May 2020 Polished Gamers box is Sega vs Nintendo. I’m olderiiishh and I was around when Nintendo first released in the US. We had Atari in the early years, and it was a big deal when my mom bought us the original Nintendo. A few years later she bought Sega for all of us girls (I’m the youngest of 3 girls) but really… they were for my mom. I remember coming home from school and my mom would say “Come here and play against me on this” and it was usually Dr. Mario or Bubble Bobble. While we liked Sega, I think it’s safe to say that we never grew tired of playing Nintendo.

So for Sega vs Nintendo – I am Team Nintendo.

When Jacob has friends over, I still bring out the Nintendo system and Power Pad for the boys to use. Yes, I still have the original system and extra doo-dads from when I was little. My mom gave it to me when Jacob was 4 years old.

Anyways – let’s talk a little about the Polished Gamers Box, then move into the swatches!

The Polished Gamers Box is a game themed box featuring several makers each month. Each box will have a gaming related theme and feature different types of indie products that include nail polish, nail care, body care, wax, and other handmade items.

While it’s called a ‘Box’ you get to pick and choose the individual items you want. If you want 10 of the same polish – have at it.. you can do that. If you want 1 of each item, you’re more than welcome to do that as well. Some items may be capped, and that info should be under each listing below – but you can also find it on the website.

The box will launch on the 15th of each month, and will be available for a 5 day preorder window. The turn around time will be approximately 2-3 weeks after the box preorder ends on the 20th of each month.

Description: 3Cheers4Ears brings us a 1UP Phone Grip for us this month! Phone Grips makes it easier to hold your phone, or use it as a kickstand. It pops out to grip with your fingers, and when done using, just pop it back down and it lays flush with your case/phone.

They attach easily to your phone with a thin adhesive layer at the base of the grip. It can be removed from your phone and placed on a different phone if needed. They are small and sturdy and I almost always have one on my phone case (lately most are from 3Cheers4Ears!)

All Mixed Up Lacquer | 1UP Vinyl Sticker

Inspiration: 1 UP from Mario

Description: All Mixed Up Lacquer brings us a green holographic 1UP vinyl sticker that can adhere to most smooth surfaces (car window, helmer, tile, etc) and is easy to apply. Peel back the top layer and it will bring the vinyl away from the backing. Press firmly where you want to apply it, use a stiff card (I use a nail stamping scraping card) over the top protective layer and scrape down (this helps adhere it to the surface) and peel away the top layer. The Vinyl should remain on the surface.

Atomic Polish | Yoshi!

Inspiration: Yoshi

Description: Yoshi! is a neon green crelly with white matte glitters ranging from small to large, in both dot and hex shapes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

I did leave this polish upside down about 10 minutes before using to allow the larger glitters to float higher up since they are heavier and tend to fall toward the bottom.

Chirality | Tonal Shift Duo

Inspiration: Friday the 13th NES

Description: Acetone Additive is a moisturizing additive for acetone to make nail polish removal less harsh on your skin and nails. Just shake the bottle of Tonal Shift to ensure all the nourishing oils are mixed, pour the entire bottle into 6-8 ounces of acetone. Then swirl the acetone bottle to mix.

I live by acetone additive for blogging, While I do add it to pure acetone remover for clean up, I most generally add it to Zoya Remove+ remover, which already has some moisture benefits – so this amps it up even more. If you are like me and use a remover like Remove+, then shake the additive bottle and pour in about half first to try – then add more as needed. Since I use so much remover, I need the added oomph, but if you use it less than I do – you may not need the full bottle of additive.

8-bit Jason: earthy ozone fog rolling through an herbal citrus grove. My nose picks up the herbal citrus grove type scent, but I almost detect a very faint mint like note? It’s very faint, but my brain is saying it’s there. My favorite of the 2 additives.

Mrs. Voorhees: watermelon and mango slices mingle with tropical coconut milk. My nose picks up the watermelon the most. This actually reminds me of a watermelon drink I grab at the store once in awhile. The Simply Watermelon juice drink. Take that scent and pour over coconut milk – and that’s the scent.

Description: The Man With The Golden Gun 007 is a gold metallic shimmer with random gold sparks and scattered silver shimmer. The silver shimmer subdues the bold gold shade just a bit so it’s not your typical gold shade. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Description: Thunderbolt is a bright yellow crelly with red glitters in hex and square shapes ranging from micro to medium. Also included is a baggie with large red dot glitters. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

I show this one both with and without the addition of the round glitters.

Copacetic Cosmetics | Midna

Inspiration: Midna from Twilight Princess (Zelda)

Description: Copacetic Cosmetics brings us a pressed custom glitter pan that combines a trio of glitters mixed to capture the essence and badassery of Princess Midna. The glitter pulls up easily (I used my finger for better control) and adheres to the skin nicely with barely any fallout. The pan wasn’t messy after using and I was rather impressed. Most glitters like this that I’ve dealt with left a glittery trail in it’s wake, but not this one.

Can be used anywhere on the body – I wouldn’t recommend on the eyes though (you do you, but I don’t.) On the skin it lays nice and flat so you don’t have a gritty feeling. It’s quite comfortable actually.

Geekish Glitter Lacquer | Sega vs Nintendo Worlds Cuticle Balm Duo

Inspiration: Mobius, the home of Sonic the Hedgehog and the Mushroom Kingdom, the home of Mario and Princess Peach

Description: This duo includes two cuticle balms in delicious scents to take you away to the homes of our beloved Sega and Nintendo characters.

Mobius is a complex mix of high notes of sweet pineapple juice, juicy strawberries, and blood orange juice; a heart of coconut milk, malibu rum, and mimosa, and a touch of vanilla extract and tonka. To my nose, this smells like a tropical drink. The coconut and pineapple notes come out the strongest for me. Smells delicious.

Mushroom Kingdom is a delectable mix of peach nectar, lemon, orange, prosecco, apricot, mango, and musk. This smells like a fizzy peach sparkling water to me. Remember the Clearly Canadian drinks? It reminds me of the peach flavor of that one!

Both of these feel really nice and have a thinner consistency so you don’t feel like you’re layering on a vaseline like product thickness. If used in small amounts, they go on and massage in nicely and leave your cuticles well hydrated.

Heaven Scent | Thank you Mario! Perfume Roll On

Inspiration: Old School Princess Toadstool

Description: Heaven Scent brings us Roll On Perfume with mica flecks mixed in. The scent is a mix of Peach Bellini and Fizzy Pop – so it’s like a fizzy peach bellini. It smells really nice, like a more sophisticated peach scent. I do detect very light floral notes mingled with the peach. It’s refreshing and very Spring like.

The mica flecks are small and if you don’t want them, just don’t shake up the roll on. They do settle to the bottom, so you can avoid them. If you wanna shimmer – just shake it up and it easily brings the flecks up.

I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. Dries with a very mild texture, but 1 coat of top coat should smooth it out just fine.

Description: Jewelry By RPF brings us a couple goodies this month!

If you are #TeamNintendo, she has a Mario & Luigi inspired bright silver tone rotating key chain. One 25mm glass cabochon uses a kelly green base with bright blue sparkly glitter for Luigi (using Scofflaw Polish Sea Wolf) and the other 25mm cabochon has a sparkly holo glitter topper with a base of white with red, blue and yellow glitter for Mario (this uses Nine Zero Lacquer Fireworks and Jumpman).  There is also a mushroom charm on the key chain for Super Mushroom of course! PI Colors | Kikoken Soap

Inspiration: Chun Li ( Street Fighter)

Description: Kikoken is a lovely blue soap with a white topping, and delicate white swirl, topped with golden shimmer and holographic gold glitter. Scented with a sweet blossom scent full of notes of mandarin, grapefruit, honeysuckle, basil, jasmine, and honey. It finishes with a fruity kick of peach nectar, lemon, and prosecco.

This is a very refreshing smelling soap. I can pick up a nice mingling of light, musky floral with citrus. It’s a nice “wake up” type soap to use in the morning. The floral notes aren’t super strong, so men who usually are against floral (cough… my son) shouldn’t have an issue using it as well. The balance is well done on the scent profile.

The loose eyeshadow is a sparkly pinky purple with blue sparkles. When applied wet, foiled, or over a tacky base the blue shimmer is stronger. This eyeshadow is safe for all cosmetic applications.

The lip gloss is a sheer pink berry with blue sparkles. You can build the color up for an extra boost.

I will be adding photos of the lip gloss on tomorrow most likely. Things have been busy with work and homeschooling and although I’ve attempted to take about 50 photos, not one is accurate or my eyes are mid blink.

I do include a skin swatch though for now. The lip gloss is non sticky and is a really nice every day color.

Red Eyed Lacquer | Twin Sever Fist Cuticle Oil

Inspiration: Double Dragon

Description: Twin Sever Fist Cuticle Oil is in a twist up style, brush applicator pen. It’s a custom blend of dragonfruit and tropical fruits including pineapple, banana and kiwi infused with spiced rum. This reminds me of my cruise to Hawaii where they kept bringing out all the fruity, tropical alcohol slushies for us to enjoy. I definitely smell the pineapple and dragonfruit notes!

The cuticle oil soaks in nicely and isn’t too thick. The scent is nicely done and isn’t too overbearing so you can smell it, but it won’t smack you in the face and invade your nostrils.

This is pinker in person. For some reason this shade did not want to photograph at all (it was way muted and paler on my camera) and even with fiddling to color correct – it didn’t want to cooperate.

Zombie Claw Polish | Switch Me On

Inspiration: Nintendo Switch Red and Blue Joy Cons

Description: Switch Me On is a medium blue crelly base with red micro holo shred, silver micro holo, pink-copper flakes, with red-gold-blue-green shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This shade is a little more muted in person, almost dusty like. My lighting really amped up the blue and made it a touch brighter on camera.
