Polish Pickup September 2024 | Vintage Halloween

Disclosure: I am a paid employee for Polish Pickup. While this post is not sponsored, I do have a relationship with the hosting collaboration shop.

This has been a super busy month… and it’s time for the September 2024 Polish Pickup shop! The theme this month is Vintage Halloween!

This month I have 60 items to share! There is one more (Lucky 13 Lacquer) on the way and it will be here at some point this coming week and I’ll pop it into this post when it arrives.

To see all items swatched/demonstrated – check out my lengthy YouTube below (with time stamps!)

As much as it pains me to say this… my childhood Halloweens are now considered “vintage” so several of these inspos I remember. We’re just going to leave it there.. cause .. I’m still not okay with realizing my childhood falls into the vintage category.

For the fine details – for all photos shown – I used Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues Peel Off Base, and for the glossy photos I did Monarch Lacquer Hi-Def Shine Top coat (sent as PR and I’ve also purchased.. and that’s an affiliate link).  For all textured polishes, I did use Glisten & Glow Glitter Grabber (PR) and Monarch Lacquer top coat over it.

For my lighting setup, since I use artificial lighting due to my day job, involves 2 Neatfi XL Lamps from Amazon (affiliate link) as well as this Daylight Company Duo Daylight Lamp (affiliate link).

And lastly – I do use artificial gel nails that I do myself at home. In this post (and video) I am using Apres Gel X Nails in Extra Short Stiletto, which are clear nails. I do not use blurring base coats or anything to increase opacity of the nails – and it shows during my YouTube videos especially. With the clear nails, if you can see through the tip still – then odds are you will also see VNL through the polish I have on. If you cannot see through them, then opacity was likely reached.

Let’s jump on in and take a look.

Price: $13.50 | Cap: None

Glisten & Glow | Dry & Prep

Inspiration:

Description: Dry + Prep is actually something I used for my Gel X Nails. Basically on your natural nail plate – apply a thin coat and it helps dehydrate the nail plate, corrects the nail plate pH balance and preps the keratin surface for adhesion of base coats and nail polish (and in my case, the “glue” I use to attach my gel nails) This also allows the nail to be free and clear of any residue and oils that can cause base coats and/or nail polish to lift or chip.

How to use: wash hands and nails with soap and water, dry hands and nails. Apply to the nail with the provided brush. Allow to dry for 30-60 seconds. Repeat this step of you have nails that are prone to lifting or are you oily nail plate. Now, apply base coat or nail polish to the nail. (The brush will spray out and separate into sections, this is totally normal.)

Jior Couture | Highly Flammable

Inspiration: Inspired by 1980’s halloween costumes; they were colorful vinyl costumes paired with plastic character masks. The masks had two small holes for eyes, that never lined up and a small slit for the mouth. The strong smell of chemicals would give you a slight headache and the :swish swish swish” sound of the vinyl could be heard several feet away. It was always so exciting going to the shops to pick out your favorite character costume. They brought us great joy…and they were all toxic and highly flammable!

Description: Highly Flammable is a sheer black tinted jelly base loaded with pink to gold shifting magnetic pigment, black opal glitters and golden yellow glitters. I used 3 thin coats, glitter smoother and glossy top coat for these photos.

KBShimmer | Hand & Body Sugar Scrub in Amber & Oakmoss (Sponsored)

Inspiration: Inspired by Eerie Woods

Description: KBShimmer’s sugar scrubs are good for all over the body or as a hand scrub, the sugar particles are medium grit so they do a good job getting dry spots on your body situated.

This complex fragrance features warm amber and deep oakmoss notes that evoke the scent of a forest. Gentle hints of cashmere are complemented by fresh citrus and white florals, creating a captivating aroma that invites you to take another whiff. The unisex scent, with its fun orange color, is the perfect way to welcome the fall season.

To my nose, the cashmere notes are stronger for me, as well as the amber. It’s a comforting scent and nice and warm. It’s a nice Fall scent that is outside the whole pumpkin spice thing.

Price: $10.00 | Cap: None

KBShimmer | Restoration Drops (PURCHASED BY ME)

Inspiration:

Description: Restoration Drops is just one of those things that polish lovers should have on standby. Polishes can have evaporation, making them thicker over time, or some ingredients just naturally make the polish thicker. Restoration Drops help thin out polish and bring the polishes either back to life (if evaporated) or bring it to a consistency you prefer.

I use these the most with top coats! Ever notice they get thicker and stringy around the halfway point? Add some thinner to get it back to what you prefer.

Whenever you use drops like this, start off with a few drops (5 or so) and mix, then see where the consistency is. Add more as necessary. This way you don’t overdo it. When I use it in top coats, I typically use 18-20 drops, but I also know my preference and have been doing it with this exact polish thinner (not this bottle, but this brand) for years so I know what to add to get it where I like.

One bottle of this usually lasts me 1 to 1.5 years

Price: $7.00 | Cap: None

KBShimmer | That’s The Spirit (Sponsored)

Lemming Lacquer | Going Guising

Inspiration: Inspired by The history of trick-or-treating traces back to Scotland and Ireland, where the tradition of guising, going house to house at Halloween and putting on a small performance to be rewarded with food or treats, goes back at least as far as the 16th century, as does the tradition of people wearing costumes at Halloween. This tradition was known as “Going Guising.”

If you have a strong VNL, it will likely show through.

Vapid Lacquer | Nail Elixir in Haunt Me

Inspiration:

Description: Nail Elixir is basically a nail and cuticle oil. This Elixir is Vapid’s blend of oils that come together to create a truly one of a kind nail and cuticle oil. It has weight to the oil itself, it’s enough to truly hydrate the toughest of cuticles and driest of nails while still being able to soak effortlessly into the skin. Once absorbed it’s not greasy and can be rubbed all over the hand for moisture.

This oil contains tamanu oil, a viscus oil that has a light brown sugar scent, this does come through in the scent straight from the bottle. Once it dries down, you will only smell the fragrance left behind. Vapid’s elixir is also heavy in Jojoba oil allowing it to soak into the nail on a molecular level, as jojoba oil is able to easily penetrate the nail and provide and carry other nutrients with it.

Nail Elixir comes in a 1 fl oz squeeze bottle

Haunt Me Nail Elixir – Sticky sweet and chewy, almost fruity, always delicious and oddly nostalgic. Like salt water taffy, but make it a little devilish.
