Another month gone by… and now it’s time for my post for the items I received for the Polish Pickup September 2021 shop with a theme of Trick or Treat!
As usual – I’m still missing a few items and they should be arriving within the next couple of days (hopefully… if USPS cooperates)
I had some minor setbacks this month which led me to have to cut some matte swatching. Basically we found our oil tank leaked not too long ago (it’s a 250 gallon tank) and we needed it to be replaced asap. We then found out that the tank may not fit through doorways to remove it… wonderful. Then we also found out the lines used to fill the tank (tank is in basement, lines lead to backyard) may no longer be up to code once we replace the tank. Previous owners built onto this home and the lines were place before adding on – so essentially they were grandfathered in and didn’t need to meet codes. Now that we have to replace the tank – they are no longer grandfathered in and we will need to have part of our yard dug up and the lines moved.
Don’t be too jealous – I know this is a load of excitement going on over here.
Things are being worked on and atm, swatching is keeping me sane. I’m working on a laptop now (did I mention the room with the oil tank shares a wall with my desk area?) so I’m slightly inconvenienced atm, but I’m making this work.
Okay onto the actual post! The September theme is Trick or Treat – so anything Halloween goes on this one. This is the 3rd time we’ve had this theme over the years so it’s familiar.
First things first – I’ve said this before but I’m repeating it. My nails aren’t “mine” for this entire post. I had a bad break in January before starting on PPU swatching, and I broke out the Kiara Sky Gelly Tips kit in Short Coffin. I did do a full post on those, so click the wording if you want to see. So yes, my nails look different because they are for now. I also am really enjoying the tips so I don’t know how long they will be on, but they are clear and don’t alter anything – so … I’m enjoying it!
For the fine details – for all photos shown – I used Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues Peel Off Base, and for the glossy photos I did use a combination of the top coats sent this month (Vibrant Vinyls and Paradox Polish sent top coat with her PR), and Paradox Polish also sent Matte Top Coat in her PR package. I purchased the Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues and the top coats were sent as pr.
I do use artificial lighting for my photos. I get the most done at night, so I swatch a lot at night. My current setup uses GlamCor Pro LIghts and I use the Ultra X Model and this Daylight Company Duo Daylight Lamp (affiliate link).
This is an EXTREMELY photo heavy post. If there is something specific you are looking for – on desktop hit CTRL + F and type what you are searching for. Otherwise, enjoy the long scroll down the page, and of course the giveaway at the end.
The September shop will be open September 3rd – September 6th and wishlisting opens tomorrow, usually late afternoon/early evening.
Let’s jump in.
1422 Designs | It Was a Graveyard Smash
Inspiration: Inspired by the song ‘Monster Mash’ and photo
Description: It Was A Graveyard Smash is a cranberry jelly base with gold-green micro flakies and white flakies. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Despite being a jelly – it built up really nicely.
Price: $12.50 | Cap: 100
1422 Designs | Moisturizing Body Dry Oil Spray
Inspiration: Inspired by Caramel apple suckers
Description:This dry oil spray contains grape seed oil, cyclomethicone, and fragrance oil. Use as you would any other body oil or lotion. The grape seed oil will absorb quickly into skin and should not leave a greasy feeling.
The scent is Caramel Apple Sucker and smells just like those suckers that are like a green jolly rancher like apple flavor with caramel over it. I freaking LOVE those things.
Dry Oil is a product i have to spot test (which people should do with any new product) because I am allergic to some oils. Remember those little bath capsules with oil in them from the 90’s? Hive city for me. Same with Avon Skin So Soft oil. I will become a giant red rash in no time. So I spot tested and my skin was just fine.
This dry oil left my skin super soft and non sticky or greasy. A little goes a long way – so dispense a bit, apply and dispense more as needed. Like any oil product – it only leaves you non greasy when used in moderation.
Price: $11.95 | Cap: 50
Alchemy Lacquers | Bad Candy
Inspiration: Bad Candy was inspired by our chartreuse Halloween Candy bowl that we’ve had sitting out since last Halloween, filled with the candy we don’t like! We ate all the good stuff already!
Description: Bad Candy is a charteuse jelly base with red to gold to green shifting shimmer, orange to gold to green shifting flakes, purple to blue shifting chrome flakes and silver holographic flakes, as well as purple flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Dries down with a mild texture, may need 2 coats of top coat for a smooth finish.
Price: $12.50 | Cap: 250
All Mixed Up Lacquers | Double, Bubble, Toil & Crafting Trouble (Thermal)
Inspiration: Inspired by all those cute Halloween crafts we try to make that just don’t turn out right
Description: Double, Bubble, Toil & Crafting Trouble is a black (cold) to clear (warm) thermal jelly base packed with blue to purple shifting shimmer, violet holo micro shreds, and an assortment of orange, black and green holographic glitters. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
This shade dries down with texture and it’s a thirsty polish. I did 2 coats of top coat and still felt some texture when it dried down, so I do recommend a glitter smoother (like Glisten & Glow’s) to get a smooth, glassy finish.
Price: $11.50 | Cap: 150
Alter Ego Body Care Products | Pink Pumpkin
Inspiration: As always, I look for unusual or little known things as my inspo. For the theme of Trick Or Treat, I thought about the various colored plastic pumpkins that are used for candy collection and I ran across a strain of pumpkins that have been developed to be pink in color. A percentage of all sales goes to the foundation for breast cancer research, here is a link: http://pinkpumpkinpatch.org
Description: Pink Pumpkin is a pink jelly base laced with a delicate pink shimmer, as well as pink holographic micro glitters that are in almost a crescent like shape. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Price: $10.00 | Cap: 50
AURORA 5-Free Nail Lacquer | Inflatable Spookies
Inspiration: Inspired by Inflatable Halloween decorations
Description: Inflatable Spookies is a purple jelly base packed with mutichrome flakes that shift from green to blue to purple with flashes of red and gold. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Price: $12.00 | Cap: 200
Baby Girl Lacquer | Frankie’s BOO-Thang (Thermal & Glow in the Dark)
Inspiration: Inspired by Bride Of Frankenstein (1935), a movie that my Mom loved watching.
Description: Before I get into this – I need to reswatch this one. Somehow I missed the GITD aspect and will show that with new photos. Only reason I hadn’t yet is I can’t get to my work area due to the work being done in the basement with the oil tank.
Frankie’s BOO-Thang is a dark gray (cold) to light gray (warm) thermal based crelly with assorted shimmer pigments, ultrachrome chameleon flakies, holo and iridescent glitters, plus holo shards. It also glows green in the dark. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
This is a fairly sheer shade and WILL show VNL. It’s also a more subtle thermal shift which made it incredibly difficult to show and the difference in person was also subtle.
Price: $13.00 | Cap: 100
Top Coat by Baroness X | Leatherette (Matte)
Inspiration: Inspired by leatherette masks worn over Halloween.
Description: Leatherette is a matte top coat, but it’s not super duper matte. So not chalkboard matte type – but it’s almost there. If you want matte without the chalkboard look – this is your jam.
For those that bought Charmeuse a couple months ago in PPU, this is more matte than that one was. I also have a comparison to share as the last photo between Leatherette and Charmeuse.
I did 1 coat over a black creme as a general showing – but this top coat excels over glitters and shimmers and flakes (oh my!) which I also show.
Price: $8.50 | Cap: None
Acetone Antidote by Baroness X | Mad Tea Party
Inspiration: Inspired by Alice In Wonderland tea party characters – some of my favorite trick or treater costumes to see
Description: Mad Tea Party is a tantalizing Baroness X house blend of Tea & Cakes fragrance mixed with chai and green apple candy give an interesting sharp, sweet note. Mad Tea Party has notes of orange pekoe and chai tea, intermingled with tart green apple candy, vanilla cupcakes and almond macarons that provides a sweetness to the blend. The tea note is not dominant in this blend, there are slight notes of amber and rosewood.
The tea is definitely dominant and it makes it a very relaxing type scent for me. Slightly earthy but sweet.
Acetone Antidote is an additive for your acetone to protect your skin from the harshness of acetone. It contains glycerin and jojoba oil to help protect and moisturize your nails, skin, and cuticles during polish removal. Plus, no more ashy, dry skin! Simply shake up the vial and pour into your polish remover. I generally pour a full vial into a 10 oz pump bottle, but I recommend shaking it and pouring half in and adding more if you feel you need more.
Price: $8.00 | Cap: None
Bee’s Knees Lacquer | The Blood Moon
Inspiration: Inspired by American Horror Story Roanoke
Description: The Blood Moon is an orange to gold to green pastel multichrome loaded with black to red multichrome flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Price: $13.00 | Cap: None
Cuticle Oil by Black Dahlia Lacquer | Candy Corn
Inspiration: Inspired by “We were inspired by our favorite fall candy, candy corn!”
Description: This fall cuticle oil captures the scent of Halloween with a sweet vanilla candy with a hint of cinnamon. Black Dahlia cuticle oils use only therapeutic grade essential oils and we never include artificially scented oils.
This smells like candy corn, but almost like a more… gourmet version? If that makes sense? It’s not as sickeningly sweet smelling as the actual candy but more of a grown up type version.
Price: $7.00 | Cap: None
Black Dahlia Lacquer | Wandering Orbs
Inspiration: We were inspired by the ghost, Wisp from Animal Crossing.
Description: Wandering Orbs is a very pale icy blue holographic multichrome that shifts from blue to purple to dark teal, with aurora shimmers. I show it in 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat, but if you layer it over a deeper shade or a black creme – it will bring out the multichrome shift more.
Price: $12.00 | Cap: 200
Bluebird Lacquer | Back On My Boosheet
Inspiration: Inspired by Blinky the blue ghost from Pac Man!
Description: Back On My Boosheet is a glowy cerulean blue jelly base loaded with blue metallic flakes and purple to blue to green shifting iridescent flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
My photos show this as a stronger, slightly deeper shade of blue than it actual is. In person it’s brighter and more toned down base color. Please check out more swatches for a better idea of this polish – it was hard for my camera to deal with and when trying to color correct – things just went even more off.
Price: $12.00 | Cap: None

Fox Fire Wax & Bath Co. | Luxe Facial Oil
Inspiration: Inspired by face paint used during trick or treating because oil is a great way to dissolve the pigments on your face pre-cleanse or between cleanses.
Description: This luxe oil* is a powerful blend of skin-healing oils to feed the skin and protect your skin barrier. It’s also a deep moisturizing formula, soothing to the skin and won’t cause irritation or breakouts.
*This is the same oil blend sold at Nordstrom and Crate & Barrel at $56 retail for the same amount.
This can also be used as a nail and cuticle oil.
To Use:
Apply a few drops directly to the face or mix it in with your moisturizer
Remember to use oil treatments, such as this, AFTER the application of your water-based treatments. This will keep the water based treatments absorbed into your skin. (If you start with oil-based, the water-based products cannot absorb into your skin because the oil creates a barrier.)
This can be used day and night, as necessary. We especially love to use it as the ultimate pamper after a nice mask.
I’ve been testing this for about a week and so far so good. I do have combination skin – so I have been using this instead of my normal moisturizer. If I use both or mix – it’s too strong for my skin. I use a very thin layer of this oil and it soaks in nicely, doesn’t cause irritation and leaves my skin nicely hydrated.
Like with most skin products – do a patch test first.
Price: $14.00 | Cap: None

Top Coat by Glisten & Glow | Glitter Grabber
Inspiration:
Description: Glitter Grabber is a “cushion” between textured polishes and top coat. It fills in all the nooks and crannies so you can apply top coat and have a smooth, glassy finish. Most of the time if you just use 2 coats of top coat – super textured polishes will still get little “sink holes”, but with Glitter Grabber you still get that smooth finish.
Always top it all off with your favorite glossy top coat.
Price: $8.00 | Cap: None

I just bought a bunch of Composition Notebooks for my son’s school supplies – so I’m glad Mommy gets her own version.
Note from the maker: Due to a ghost stealing the “h’ in the word “ghoulish” on the front (JK – its a typo. I made a typo. My 4th grade failed spelling tests have finally come back to haunt me), I am selling these for cost. I hope you enjoy regardless!

Description: The Shimmer Scale pendant uses a black pendant tray and a glass cabochon, and gold to green old school UP sibling pigment, which shifts from a bronze gold to green, and flashes orange and teal at more extreme angles! It’s always made me think of dragons! The outline of the same overlapping spiral/criss-cross pattern that is on the back of the pendants shows under the pigment in the pendant, making a pattern reminiscent of scales.

The Soapy Chef | Sulfate Free Shampoo Bar/Body Wash
Inspiration: Inspired by Halloween
Description: This shampoo bar/body wash is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint! It has less waste than your traditional liquid shampoos in plastic bottles. It is sulfate free, so it is safe for dyed hair. It has an amazing lather and smells incredible too!
Because of my hair type (oily scalp with dry ends) I do need a leave in conditioner after using this – however – it did get my hair squeaky clean. I use shampoo bars on and off and really – I love them. I find them less hassle than bottles and they just seem to smell so much better and the scent seems to hang on in my hair too.
So far I’ve used this 6 times and I have a TON of uses left. Not even half the bar is gone yet.

Always love a flakie bomb so I would say Fair Maiden is my #1!

Sweet Heart Polish Mmm Brains… certainly grabbed my attention for this month!
So excited for the Different Dimension and Kathleen & Co this month.
I’m not super into the polishes this month, I may grab the Wildflower but that’s it. I’m more excited about indie pickup – I think I need the Cuticula Top Coat in Caramel Apple Pops and Handmade Natural Beauty pumpkin soap!
Polished For Days is SO gorgeous this month! ❤
The kbshimmer scrub is looking beautiful too!
EDK | Halloween’s Finest Trick or Treaters
Gonna try Tamsies for the first time ever: wish me luck in getting my wishlist shorter so I won’t go broke this month!
I want the Moisturizer by Penelope Luz
I’ve become a sucker for magnetics and Vanessa Molina’s looks beautiful!
I’m excited for the Fancy Gloss and the Vanessa Molina (not in the blog post).
KBShimmer is also awfully pretty!
So excited for Polished for Days, Night Owl & KB Shimmer. Also, the Unicorn Magic hand creme sounds amazingly yummy. Thanks, Lisa.
I feel like there are so many good ones! It’s hard to pick! Serum No. 5 | Hollow Inside (Glow In The Dark) is definitely one of them though :D
I like a lot of these, but I think some of the most unique are By Vanessa Molina’s magnetic, Dreamland’s foil, Scofflaw’s glitter, and Femme Fatale’s thermal.
I’d love the Dany Vianna one. So sad it has a low cap. Hoping I’ll be one of the lucky few! The crelly and hex glitter combo is my fav.
Holy cow I love all of these but Back on My Boosheet is my FAVE!
Wildflower Lacquer – Carpe Noctem
Kathleen & Co Ghost Manor is so pretty!

I really enjoyed scrolling through this post. So many to choose from, but I stand by my first choice. I am intrigued by the wax melts and the oils. The additive for remover seems extra if you’re using Zoya Remover?
I need to pickup DRK Nails | Light Tricks
Looking forward to Penelope Luz Wizard Kitten in September!
The NOL topper *heart eyes*
I’m absolutely in love with Fair Maiden – Creepin’ it Real, but my list of “must” haves is far longer than that….
I’m almost out of acetone antidote and sounds like I might need to get 2 of these bottles even if they are bigger than the old ones. Also like the Bluebird Lacquer, I have a lot of blue polish but very few are true blue, they either lean blurple or turquoise.
Jreine polish is beautiful.
Heather’s Hues | Get Lit is fiiirrreeee!
This month is dangerous for my wallet. We are after almost every piece of jewelry this month, and the bags I’m gonna be broke!

LOVE the Emily de Molly.
Going to need to add Rouge, Cuticula, and Aurora to my wishlist this month
I am sorely tempted by so many this month! Trying to be good because I just spent a bunch on back-to-school for my kids…but Stella Chroma is calling my name.
I also gotta have MTK’s Simply Meant to Be – I’m loving all her thermals!
Do I need more Fast & Hard right now? Not really. Will I probably get some anyway? Yep ;)
I have entirety too many things on my wish list!
I am a sucker for Supernatural so my top pick would be I’ve Got The Kielbasa You Ordered from Red Eyed Lacquer.
Lots of nice purples to choose from!
The polish from Glisten & Glow is so different!
I’m having such a hard time narrowing down my list!!!
I really thought Halloween would be awesome, but it just continues to be such an underwhelming year (in my opinion only; I know everyone else loves absolutely every single polish that comes down the pike). So I guess I’ll go with the Shimmer Scale pendant by Starlight & Sparkles – beautiful color.
I’m so curious about the glitter grabber
Cadillacquer
The Nailed It polish is perfect for fall!!
The EDK magnetic looks really nice!
Unicorn Magic Skincare’s hand cream looks great this month!
Dark Deco is lovely

I love that the Fancy Gloss is Halloween-inspired, but wearable year-round, so I’ll probably pick it up. (Plus, their thermals last forever!)
Love these colors and scents!
I adore the Pi Colors polish.
I love The Crafty Taco’s simple yet adorable earrings this month ✨
I’m definitely getting the top and base coats from vibrant vinyls
I love Pi Colors “It Was Agatha All Along”
But I also Loved:
Grace-full Nail Polish – Graveyard Mash
Pahlish – Delivery By Broomstick
Cupcake Polish – Fangs for the Memories
Saki Cosmetics – Spectre
I may just have to try the Glitter Grabber! I found some rather old mainstream glitters at Dollar Tree yesterday, and this would give me incentive to wear them :).
I love the Sweet & Sour Lacquer polish!
I really like Lacquer in the Air Hey Paul!
