Polish Pickup October 2024 | Natural Phenomenon

Happy Thursday! I know I’m behind this month – lots of life things came up and as much as I love this little site and channel – my son always comes first. But this month he got his first job and it’s going well (yay UPS! Mom’s packages get priority.. right?) and we’re in the process of buying him a new car. But I did get this done before the shop opens… so I still am on time.

The Polish Pickup theme this month is Natural Phenomenon and I have 55 items to share!

For the fine details – for all photos shown – I used Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues Peel Off Base, and for the glossy photos I did Monarch Lacquer Hi-Def Shine Top coat (sent as PR and I’ve also purchased.. and that’s an affiliate link).  For all textured polishes, I did use Glisten & Glow Glitter Grabber (PR) and Monarch Lacquer top coat over it. 

For my lighting setup, since I use artificial lighting due to my day job, involves 2 Neatfi XL Lamps from Amazon (affiliate link) as well as this Daylight Company Duo Daylight Lamp (affiliate link).

And lastly – I do use artificial gel nails that I do myself at home. In this post (and video) I am using Apres Gel X Nails in Extra Short Stiletto, which are clear nails. I do not use blurring base coats or anything to increase opacity of the nails – and it shows during my YouTube videos especially. With the clear nails, if you can see through the tip still – then odds are you will also see VNL through the polish I have on. If you cannot see through them, then opacity was likely reached.

Alchemy Lacquers | Belt of Venus

Inspiration: Inspired by the pinkish glow that is visible above the horizon either before sunrise or after sunset.

Description: Belt of Venus is a blue-grey crelly based solar that leans into the crème side, in the sun or UV light it turns to dusky salmon pink and is packed with red to orange to gold shifting shimmer.

This can deepen quite a bit, but the darkest hues are only when there’s pure UV (like a flashlight or on a REALLY good UV day outside)

Please note that certain top coats that contain the ingredients etocrylene AND benzophenone, which are UV absorbers, can diminish the effectiveness of the transition capabilities of solar nail lacquers. For maximum effect, Alchemy Lacquers recommends using top coats without these two ingredients or benzophenone as the last ingredient

Inspiration: Inspired by Earth’s most massive organism, the Pando forest! Although it appears to be multiple trees, Pando is a clonal colony of an individual quaking aspen with an interconnected root system

Description: The Trembling Giant is a cerulean blue jelly base packed with iridescent flakies featuring shifting colors of gold/yellow/green, green/blue, and pink/orange/gold. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Atomic Polish | Sundog (Sponsored)

Inspiration: Inspired by a sun halo called Sundogs. These occur naturally and appear as two bright spots on either side of the sun. It is caused by the refraction of sunlight by ice crystals. Sundogs are a relatively common occurrence seen in Minnesota on extremely cold day.

Description: Acetone Antidote is an additive for your acetone to protect your skin from the harshness of acetone. It contains glycerin and jojoba oil to help protect and moisturize your nails, skin, and cuticles during polish removal. Plus, no more ashy, dry skin! Simply shake up the vial and pour into your polish remover. I generally pour a full vial into a 10 oz pump bottle, but I recommend shaking it and pouring half in and adding more if you feel you need more.

I’m going to admit – I do not drink/eat pumpkin spice things. I love the scent – i appreciate the scent – but the taste is a no from me. Nick and Jacob live for it. I’m good without.

This is a nice, squishy jelly so the dots do have a bit of movement when applying, but i had no issues pulling dots from the bottle.

My lighting made the blue base appear a bit brighter than it actually is.

This top coats dries fast (about 4 minutes on me) and glows under blacklight. Also pairs beautifully with G&G Glitter Grabber if you picked that up in previous shops.

The thermal shift is sheerer on both sides since I stopped at 2 coats. If i did 3, the flakes would take over a bit more – so I preferred it this way.
