Polish Pickup May 2024 | It Came From Outer Space

Happy Thursday! I am severely behind in posting this blog post and video… but I’ve basically been sick for about 2 weeks now and it wasn’t pretty. I am up to date on photos for blogging and such – but video was delayed because I have a really bad cough, and while trying to record I would go into coughing fits and it made for very shaky video. So overall – I’m not that far behind… just this video and blog… but I’ll still have them up before the shop opens!
So now we’re going to look at the Polish Pickup May 2024 offerings and the theme is It Came From Outer Space!
If I type something and it’s a little… fuzzy? I am on a mix of Dayquil and Mucinex to function normally.. so I’m a little all over the place. Like I said – I’m actually not that far behind in photos and such so.. that combo has kept me going a bit!
This post will have 62 items in it total. It was a bigger month. You can check out the video below with a live swatch and quick demos of all of the polishes and items I received.
For the fine details – for all photos shown – I used Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues Peel Off Base, and for the glossy photos I did Monarch Lacquer Hi-Def Shine Top coat (sent as PR and I’ve also purchased). For all textured polishes, I did use Glisten & Glow Glitter Grabber (PR) and Monarch Lacquer top coat over it. For matte photos I used Anchor & Heart Lacquer Sea Glass (Gifted and Purchased by me)
For my lighting set up I use artificial lighting due to my day job, my set up involves 2 Neatfi XL Lamps from Amazon (affiliate link) as well as this Daylight Company Duo Daylight Lamp (affiliate link).
For my nails – they are Apres Gel X nails throughout this post, and the style is Extra Short Stiletto. For the glow in the dark polishes, I used a UV flashlight (affiliate link) to charge for the glow/change in polish. Since I do my photos and videos at night – I don’t have the sun to help charge the polish.

Inspiration: Inspired by the TV Show Ancient Aliens and the phrase “I’m Not Saying It Was Aliens” from one of the featured guests, Giorgio Tsoukalos.
Description: I’m Not Saying It Was Aliens is a solar polish that shifts from a dusty lilac to dark purple under UV with a crelly base and cyan to blue to purple shifting shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
I did use a UV flashlight for the shift since I did the photos at night.

Inspiration: Inspired by Star Trek
Description: Beam Me Up Scottie is a pale milky aqua blue (warm) to light turquoise (cold) crelly based thermal with blue to purple shifting shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
I did not realize at the time of photos that this was a thermal so I show this polish in the cold state. My video does show the transition between the warm and cold state though.

Description: Apipila No Smudge Top Coat is a protective layer for your nail art and stamping. This is one of the only no smudge toppers I’ve used that is truly smudge free for me. I originally received this about 4 years ago as a press sample and have since purchased it many many times (I think this is my 5th bottle)
Once my nail art is complete – I simply add a layer of this stuff, let dry and then top coat with my favorite glossy top coat.

I did have to “fish” for the dots. Before starting this mani, I left the bottle sitting upside down for about 20 minutes, and then swirled the brush and “fished” for the dots. It was the only way I could grab them for the mani. I don’t think I was able to “naturally” pick up any dot glitters on the brush without fishing.

KBSHIMMER | RESTORATION DROPS (PURCHASED BY ME)

Description: Restoration Drops is just one of those things that polish lovers should have on standby. Polishes can have evaporation, making them thicker over time, or some ingredients just naturally make the polish thicker. Restoration Drops help thin out polish and bring the polishes either back to life (if evaporated) or bring it to a consistency you prefer.
I use these the most with top coats! Ever notice they get thicker and stringy around the halfway point? Add some thinner to get it back to what you prefer.
Whenever you use drops like this, start off with a few drops (5 or so) and mix, then see where the consistency is. Add more as necessary. This way you don’t overdo it. When I use it in top coats, I typically use 18-20 drops, but I also know my preference and have been doing it with this exact polish thinner (not this bottle, but this brand) for years so I know what to add to get it where I like.
One bottle of this usually lasts me 1 to 1.5 years.

UNICORN MAGIC SKINCARE | DELUXE VEGAN CUTICLE BALM
Inspiration: Inspired by the seven sisters, the Pleiadian star system.
Description: Deluxe Vegan Cuticle Balm is a creamy and nourishing balm made with unrefined organic shea butter, skin loving oils and kosher non GMO soy wax. This is an intensive cuticle treatment and one I’ve been using for months in various scents. It’s incredible.
The Pleiadians – a invigorating and fresh spa like aroma with white tea and star jasmine, top notes of bergamot, mandarin and pink grapefruit.
This is a light scent and hard for me to pick up with my stuffed up nose – but when I got it in, I remember it being a fairly light, clean and refreshing scent.

VAPID LACQUER | NAIL ELIXIR IN INFINITE EXPANSION
Inspiration: Inspired by the terrifying realization that the rock we are being hurled through space upon is just becoming a smaller spec in an ever expanding field of light and star dust. Kinda terrifying.
Description: Nail Elixir is basically a nail and cuticle oil. This Elixir is Vapid’s blend of oils that come together to create a truly one of a kind nail and cuticle oil. It has weight to the oil itself, it’s enough to truly hydrate the toughest of cuticles and driest of nails while still being able to soak effortlessly into the skin. Once absorbed it’s not greasy and can be rubbed all over the hand for moisture.
This oil contains tamanu oil, a viscus oil that has a light brown sugar scent, this does come through in the scent straight from the bottle. Once it dries down, you will only smell the fragrance left behind. Vapid’s elixir is also heavy in Jojoba oil allowing it to soak into the nail on a molecular level, as jojoba oil is able to easily penetrate the nail and provide and carry other nutrients with it.

When I got this, my nose picked up watermelon and a hint of sandalwood. It was an odd combo but it was divine.
