Polish Pickup August 2024 | Book Covers

Happy Monday! It’s that time again – and after a super busy month, I’ve got my Polish Pickup August 2024 post ready – and the theme this month is Book Covers!
To see all items swatched/demonstrated – check out my lengthy YouTube below (with time stamps!) I have 44 items to share this month (and I think it all arrived, but things were still trickling in on Saturday)
I read a lot. A LOT. I actually read during my little breaks at work and any chance i get really. Sometimes while swatching I will have my kindle up on my desktop and read from there. Truth be told I’m currently on a series I was meh about, but now they’ve squeezed the life out of it to keep putting out books and I’m over the series… but at the same time I have to complete it for my peace of mind. So any book theme I am all for. Bring it on.
For the fine details – for all photos shown – I used Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues Peel Off Base, and for the glossy photos I did Monarch Lacquer Hi-Def Shine Top coat (sent as PR and I’ve also purchased.. and that’s an affiliate link). For all textured polishes, I did use Glisten & Glow Glitter Grabber (PR) and Monarch Lacquer top coat over it.
For my lighting setup, since I use artificial lighting due to my day job, involves 2 Neatfi XL Lamps from Amazon (affiliate link) as well as this Daylight Company Duo Daylight Lamp (affiliate link).
And lastly – I do use artificial gel nails that I do myself at home. In this post (and video) I am using Apres Gel X Nails in Extra Short Stiletto, which are clear nails. I do not use blurring base coats or anything to increase opacity of the nails – and it shows during my YouTube videos especially. With the clear nails, if you can see through the tip still – then odds are you will also see VNL through the polish I have on. If you cannot see through them, then opacity was likely reached.

I did use a UV flashlight for these photos since I work at night, so this does show the extreme side of the transition.
My photos brightened the blue a bit, it’s more of a muted sky blue shade.

Description: Sugar Bubbles brings us a 9.5cm x 14.5cm stamping plate with various books (some single, some open, some stacked) as well as images holding books and some specific types (there is a Stephen King image and Edgar Allan Poe)
I did find some of the images on the larger side and would possibly need wider nails or a shrinking stamper (which I don’t have yet) but most of the images were the right size for my thumb or middle finger nail. The images I tried all picked up nicely and clean.

UNICORN MAGIC SKINCARE | DELUXE ACETONE ADDITIVE
Inspiration: Inspired by The Lost Book of Herbal Remedies; the Healing Power of Plant Medicine.
Description: The use of acetone can wreak havoc on nails and surrounding skin, leaving those unsightly dry white marks. Acetone additive will help diminish the stripping of natural oils from your hands & nails, helping them look healthy and beautiful. Contains skin loving oils such as jojoba & argan oil for maximum benefit.
I use approximately 1/5th of the bottle into a 10 oz pump bottle of Zoya Remove+, or 1/3 of the bottle into pure acetone.
The scent is Rosemary, Mint & Tea Tree – a calming blend of rosemary, mint and lemon, infused with earthy patchouli and soft florals, mixed with fresh, camphoraceous tea tree.
This is a very earthy scent and I find the tea tree to come out the most.
Comes in a 1oz controlled dropper tip bottle.

If you have a strong VNL, it will likely show through this.
The formula for this was a bit on the thick side (more visible in my video for application) which I let the maker know – and she said she will fix the formula to be a little less thick (some glow pigments can do this)
