Disclosure: I am a paid employee for Polish Pickup. While this post is not sponsored, I do have a relationship with the hosting collaboration shop.

Happy Sunday! It’s been a long week, and PR for this month’s Polish Pickup continued to trickle in up until yesterday – so now I’m fully ready to do my post. We’re going to be looking at 66 of this month’s offerings that I received for the Polish Pickup August 2022 Marine Magic theme!
We’ve done an aquatic theme before (Aquatic Wonder in April 2020) and that was a fun month – so it was nice to have it back with some fresh, new inspo.
For the fine details – for all photos shown – I used Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues Peel Off Base, and for the glossy photos I did use a combination of the top coats including Sweet & Sour Lacquer and Vibrant Vinyls which was sent as PR this month. I purchased the Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues and the top coats were sent as pr or as gifts.
Due to attending Polish & Beauty Expo, I lost about 6 days of swatching, so I did skip matte photos this month (plus I’m out of matte top coat and ordering more) so those will be back for September.
I do use artificial lighting for my photos. I work during the day and weekend afternoons I’m with Nick and Jacob, so I do most swatching when the sun is setting or gone. My current setup uses GlamCor Pro LIghts and I use the Ultra X Model and this Daylight Company Duo Daylight Lamp (affiliate link).
For reflective polish photos – I only used my camera flash. It was taken in low light with a my camera (Nikon Coolpix L830)
For Glow In The Dark polishes I used this UV flashlight to “charge” my nails for photos (affiliate link)
Wishlisting is open now, and within each description – you will find the direct wishlisting link if you want to add as you go.
Let’s get into it.

Acetone Antidote by Baroness X | Tiki Beach
Inspiration: Inspired by coconuts and tiki drinks.
Description: Acetone Antidote is an additive for your acetone to protect your skin from the harshness of acetone. It contains glycerin and jojoba oil to help protect and moisturize your nails, skin, and cuticles during polish removal. Plus, no more ashy, dry skin! Simply shake up the vial and pour into your polish remover. I generally pour a full vial into a 10 oz pump bottle, but I recommend shaking it and pouring half in and adding more if you feel you need more.
This month’s Acetone Antidote scent is Tiki Beach, and it’s a blend of warm vanilla musk, orchids and toasted coconut.
To my nose – the orchid and coconut is the prominent profile and the vanilla musk is there, but it’s not as strong. There is a very sweet component to the floral that I absolutely love.

Fox Fire Wax & Bath Co. | Pirate’s Skull Car Diffuser
Inspiration: Inspired by pirates
Description: Pirate’s Skull Car Diffuser is a vent clip on liquid car freshener. It doesn’t necessarily need to be used in the car either. I actually keep one on my desk at work and have one in my car.
Basically the first photo below shows the components that will come with it. A small glass skull full of the scent (this one is Mangosteen and Green Coconut), a vent clip, a wood lid with a hole at the top and a wooden reed. There’s also a plastic cap that will be on the top of the skull to prevent spillage in transit, which I removed prior to photos.
To use in the car, take the wood lid off, place the vent clip on top of the skull, then replace the wood cap and insert wood reed into hole in top of lid. The fragranced scent will soak into the wood and travel up the reed to the wooden ball on top, and the scent will flow through the car from there. If you want it at your desk, do those same steps but leave the clip off and just do the wooden cap and reed.
From experience – this will last for car fragrance for about 30-45 days on hot days, and closer to 50-60 days in the colder months.
The scent for this month is Mangosteen and Green Coconut and it has a very tropical smell, it’s citrus cut by coconut but it’s a stronger tropical citrus. I almost detect hints of blood orange.

Cuticle Oil & Cuticle Remover Pens Duo by Glisten & Glow | Sun & Sand
Inspiration:
Description: Cuticle Remover & Cuticle Oil is scented in Sun & Sand this month, which is described as a tropical beach breeze of sweet orange flower, lemony citrus, fresh lavender and powdery musk.
The scents that popped out at me more were citrus, a slight hint of lavender and powdery musk. It’s refreshing but still softer.
Glisten & Glow’s Cuticle Remover softens and removes excess cuticle as well as eponychium skin and comes in an easy to use twist-up pen style applicator.
Directions for Cuticle Remover: Apply generously to the cuticle area and let sit for 60 seconds. Next, gently push back with your favorite tool, I personally love my Germanikure Crystal Cuticle Pusher (that’s an affiliate link) Finally, wash hands and cuticles thoroughly with soap and water.
Follow up with the cuticle oil pen, and your cuticles will be in tip top shape

Restoration Drops by KBShimmer | Nail Polish Thinner (Paid PR)
Inspiration: Inspired by thick polish
Description: Over time, nail polish can get thick and stringy. This is due to the evaporation of Butyl Acetate and Ethyl Acetate, two of the main ingredients in all nail polishes that help the polish to dry on your nails. To restore thick polish, use our KBShimmer polish thinner, Restoration Drops. For slightly thickened polish, start with 2-3 drops, shake, then check the consistency. Repeat until you are happy with the result.
I actually use this stuff a lot (and have for years) for my top coats. When they get 1/3-1/2 the way down and get stringy, I add about 12 drops before topping off the bottles with more. This way the old top coat in the bottle gets thinned out before introducing new top coat to it. If I’m combining bottles that are both about 1/2, then I add 16-18 drops into one bottle, then pour the other bottle in and mix.
One bottle like this does last awhile, but it’s really good to have on hand – especially if you are particular about your polish consistency. If you prefer thinner polishes – you can control the consistency a bit when you buy polish.
Price: $7.00 | Cap: None | Wishlist Link
Hand & Body Scrub by KBShimmer | Salt Water & Mermaids (Paid PR)
Inspiration: Inspired by mermaids
Description: KBShimmer’s sugar scrubs are good for all over the body or as a hand scrub, the sugar particles are medium grit so they do a good job getting dry spots on your body situated.
Salt Water & Mermaids hand and body scrub is a sweet scent that captures the essence of mermaids with a fresh, watery green fragrance. Delicate notes of ocean mist and sea grass combine with agave nectar and coconut milk for a fruit-like fragrance I can’t quite describe. A sea blue shade, this scrub is accented by a touch of biodegradable glitter on top for a scrub that will make you want a seashell outfit and a day at the beach.
To my nose… this is incredible. It’s a sweet almost floral scent with some tropical fruits. It reminds me of a Victoria’s Secret body mist from my early 20’s and I cannot put my finger on which one. As soon as I smelled it though, it triggered that memory and it’s been bugging me since that I cannot place it

Fizzy Salty Bath Milk by Red Eyed Lacquer | Ocean Spray
Inspiration: Inspired by the ocean

Ocean Spray scent is a blend of sea salt and pineapple, which confuses my nose and almost springs a light floral note for me. I definitely get the citrus and tart pineapple note but the sea salt mixed in alters it and elevates it.

Pineapple Under The Sea – Sweet, fruity pineapple sits on a base of smooth coastal waters, sea kelp, and ozone.
My nose primarily picks up the sweet tartness of pineapple but it’s mellowed out by a scent I cannot place, and I’m assuming it’s the “ozone” since I don’t really know what that smells like.
For this nail design I used Hit The Bottle Street Art Neon Jellies and Stuck on You stamping polish
EDK Sea Life Stamping Plate

What Addiction? | Kelp Forest
Inspiration: Inspired by Monterey Aquarium’s kelp forest in California which is amazing, highly recommend.
Description: Kelp Forest is a seafoam green jelly base that borders on crelly with blue to green shimmers and a variety of crystal flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
This shade is a touch deeper in person.
Price: $13.50 | Cap: 100 | Wishlist Link
Zombie Claw | Trying to Catch a Falling Starfish
Inspiration: Inspired by other half of the joke with Jen & Berries polish.
Okay so… story time. In the maker’s group for PPU we try to have threads going so makers can show the polish they made, they usually say the name etc, in a way it’s to help avoid possible dupes but sometimes it inspires makers to team up (as is the case here)
Jen & Berries posted How Do You Talk To An Angelfish… and another maker (I want to say it was Red Eyed Lacquer) asked “How?” so I responded (because I know the song) “You can’t. It’s like trying to catch a falling star(fish)” and was very proud of myself. I’m clever like twice a year… and I just used at least 1 of them. A few weeks later, Sabrina asked if I would swatch her August PPU polish and I found out she used the other half. So my joke is now in polish form for me to cherish forever and remember that moment in 2022 when I was clever.
Description: Trying To Catch A Falling Starfish is a bright magenta crelly base loaded with crystal flakes, blue shimmer and black flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Price: $13.00 | Cap: 300 | Wishlist Link
Polish Pickup August 2022 | Marine Magic
As one would expect from a watery theme – there’s a lot of blue and green tones this month. This works for me because cool tones are just perfection with my skin tone so a lot of the polishes just worked well for me.

Man! It’s so hard to pick a favorite each month. If I HAD to, I guess I’d go with Colores De Carol.
