This month flew by and with all the excitement from Nashville, I lost track of due dates and was literally cropping photos until about 3am this morning… but it was all worth it because it’s time for my post for the Polish Pickup August 2021 shop with a theme of The Elements: Earth, Air, Fire & Water!
I’m still missing 2-3 items (I think it’s 2 but something is telling me a third maker had said they were sending late.. we’ll see) so when those arrive I will be popping them into the post.
This month’s theme is The Elements: Earth, Wind, Fire and Water. As always the makers can do a literal interpretation of the theme or loosely base it … or think totally outside the box.
First things first – I’ve said this before but I’m repeating it. My nails aren’t “mine” for this entire post. I had a bad break in January before starting on PPU swatching, and I broke out the Kiara Sky Gelly Tips kit in Short Coffin. I did do a full post on those, so click the wording if you want to see. So yes, my nails look different because they are for now. I also am really enjoying the tips so I don’t know how long they will be on, but they are clear and don’t alter anything – so … I’m enjoying it!
For the fine details – for all photos shown – I used Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues Peel Off Base, and for the glossy photos I did use a combination of the top coats sent this month (Vibrant Vinyls, Cuticula, and Glisten & Glow), and Ethereal Lacquer Cloudburst Matte Top Coat. I purchased the Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues and the glossy top coats were sent as pr. As for Cloudburst, I honestly don’t recall if I bought it or if it was sent as PR/Swatcher gift – so we’re going to say it was PR to be safe.
I did receive some PM’s on this so I will touch on it real quick. Some makers are offering compensation in exchange for swatching. I have declined these offers for PPU and some other offerings which is why mine will not be labeled as Paid PR. I do receive compensation from PPU in exchange for my work on their IG page, but I do not receive compensation for the work I do on my own posts. The makers can also confirm that when asked directly I declined any form of payment in exchange for my swatching. If that ever changes, I will mark my PR accordingly.
I do use artificial lighting for my photos. I get the most done at night, so I swatch a lot at night. My current setup uses GlamCor Pro LIghts and I use the Ultra X Model and this Daylight Company Duo Daylight Lamp (affiliate link).

Base Coat by Baby Girl Lacquer | Glitter Be Gone!
Inspiration: I was heavily inspired by the need to remove glitter nail polish quickly and painlessly.
Description: Glitter Be Gone is a latex free feel off base coat.
When applied this is a milky base that dries down to an almost satin finish and it is recommended to use 2 coats. It lasts longer than the latex versions and adheres a lot better. I did not have time to test it fully – but I did wear it for about 36 hours without issues.
Once done – simply use an orange stick or cuticle pusher to nudge up around the cuticle and then pop or peel off. Easy peasy.

Baby Girl Lacquer | Water On Mars II
Inspiration: Inspired by the mention of water being found on Mars. Also, wanting to have something with an element in the name. My first version was created about five years ago and inspired this revamp.
Description: Water On Mars II is a semi sheer teal green crelly base with blu eto violet shimmer as well as a rainbow assortment of chrome flakes, as well as a light sprinkling of holo. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. Visible nail line is still fairly noticeable.

Acetone Antidote by Baroness X | Casa Pacifica
Inspiration: Inspired by the relaxing nature of the ocean (water).
Description: Acetone Antidote is an additive for your acetone to protect your skin from the harshness of acetone. It contains glycerin and jojoba oil to help protect and moisturize your nails, skin, and cuticles during polish removal. Plus, no more ashy, dry skin! Simply shake up the vial and pour into your polish remover. I generally pour a full vial into a 10 oz pump bottle, but I recommend shaking it and pouring half in and adding more if you feel you need more.
This month’s scent is Casa Pacifica and the scent compares to Voluspa’s Casa Pacifica scent. It’s described as notes of Pacific Coast driftwood, wild brush and the spray of ocean waves crashing on the rocks, memories of a beach house on the West Coast. Very relaxing and very well blended. A perfect scent to accompany a fancy beach house vacation away from all the troubles of the world. Ocean views, in solitude.
This isn’t the typical ocean type scent and the driftwood is more noticable than I expected. Very summery, very beachy and a little salty.

Sweet Scent Whipped Sugar Scrub | BCB Lacquers
Inspiration: Inspired by Representing earth and inspired by Bulbasaur from Pokemon.
Description: Whipped Sugar Scrub is a fluffy, gently but effective sugar scrub with a custom oil blend perfect for hydration and exfoliation. There is a mix of white and brown sugar mixed in. On top there is a mix of jojoba beads.
This month’s scent is described as top notes of mandarin, peach nectar, apricot, mango, lime, lemon, orange, champagne, prosecco.
My nose picks up that prosecco/champagne bubbly tingle mixed with light citrus. It’s a refreshing type scent without an overpowering amount of citrus.

Inspiration: Earth/Dirt
Description: Look at my natural nubbies! This was sent while I was in between a new set of nails.
No More Uglicles Cuticle Balm is a nice balm that melts on contact with your body heat. This comes in a metal tin and smells like dirt.
Straight up dirt. Slight itty bitty hint of floral – but it’s dirt and I’m here for it.

Due to the bright, almost neon nature of this polish – in some lighting it leans more fuchsia, in others more purple.

Lip Balm by Color Spectrum Polish | Gimme S’more Please
Inspiration: Inspired by S’mores by the campfire
Description: A vegan lip balm tinted light brown with flavors of creamy chocolate, fluffy marshmallows and crunchy graham crackers along with flecks of copper glitter.
These lip balms are incredibly lightly tinted, but they don’t show up much on my lips. There is a very subtle sparkle though. They are a stiffer formula that melts with my body heat on my lips and offers a nice, softening coat rather than a greasy, loose feeling.

Color Spectrum Polish | Planeteers Power Rings
Inspiration: Inspired by Captain Planet Power Rings
Description: Planeteers Power Rings is a sheer, shimmery gold with silver linear holo mixed in with green holo squares, red holo hearts and blue holi stars. The larger shapes need to be grabbed a placed a bit. In normal application, I actually didn’t get any out. This is a beautiful stand alone as well as a topper (I show it over black as well) but the hearts and stars take a little fishing.

Base Coat by Colores de Carol | Fillin’ Ready
Inspiration:
Description: This multi-functional base coat repairs and protects nails, and smoothes ridges while offering a VNL blur effect.
The color is a milky, pale neutral shade almost ivory like in color and I actually like this as a base or as a standalone neutral wash.
I show this on it’s own in 2 thin coats, and then 1 coat under Fancy Gloss Green Slime to show how it blurs the VNL underneath.
As for ridge filling capabilities – I have false nails and no ridges so I cannot speak for that. I would advise seeking out other reviews to find out their experience for that.

Description: Eight Arms is a semi sheer plum crelly base packed with iridescent metallic gold/green/purple shifting flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
The base is on the sheerer side and it’s actually the flakes that bring up the opacity due to how densely packed they are. If you have a strong VNL, you have a chance of still seeing it through the base at 2 coats, but 3 normal to thick coats should cover it.

Pixie Kit by Jreine | Serenity
Inspiration:
Description: Serenity Pixie Kit shifts violet to gold to green. I used this powder over a black creme this month.
Pixie Magic Kit from Jreine comes with Super Base (sticky base), Serenity Powder and an applicator. Burnishing powder is fairly easy to use and all you do is paint your base color and allow to dry. Then apply a thin coat of Super Base and wait 45 seconds to 1 min 30 seconds for it to become tacky. If you are in higher humidity this may take longer. Once its tacky, use the applicator to tap on some powder and then lightly rub it in.
I prefer to tap some on and then use my finger to rub it in, but whatever works best for you.
I used a black creme base for these photos.

Hand & Body Sugar Scrub by KBShimmer | Farmer’s Market
Inspiration: Inspired by Earth

I did not get much of a reaction to the magnetic particles. I did see a light line when I first brought the magnet to the nail but it dissipated so quickly I couldn’t take a photo. My recommendation is to buy the polish for it’s color more than the effect. Maybe you have a stronger magnet – but the effect seems more subtle if there at all.

Tamesies Smoothing Hair Oil by Red Eyed Lacquer | Sea Mist
Inspiration: Inspired by the Ocean
Description: Sea Mist is a custom blend of coconut and sea salt. This is a nice light neutral scent. It’s not as strong scent wise as past Tamesies but it’s still very noticeable and I actually really like that – as does my son.
To use, I add a few squirts into my hand, rub my palms together and scrunch the product into my damp hair after a shower. I do have long, thick but fine hair, so I do require about 4-5 pumps of product for my hair. I avoid the top of my head because my scalp tends to be oily, but the ends dry out and Tamsies has helped a ton, plus is adds a nice scent to my hair.
Can also be used as a cuticle oil.

Page Marker Set by Starlight and Sparkles | Five Elements
Inspiration: Inspired by The idea of the five classical elements – air, fire, water, earth, and aether
Description: This set has five page markers, each with a different colored faceted glass stone, in a silver-colored frame. The five pieces are yellow (air), red (fire), blue (water), green (earth), and clear (aether). It’s simple, but beautiful!
These sets use rectangular paper clips, stainless steel rings, silvery iridescent glass beads, and faceted glass stones. Due to the shape of the paperclip, the charms can’t freely slide all around the paperclip, and I find these type of paperclips to be quite secure, able to reliably hold quite a few sheets, and I usually find they’re less likely to leave paperclip imprints in the page they’re attached to.

I new right away since the spoilers started what I wanted, in fact, I wonder if I can order 3 bottles of it: Starry Sky by Danny Vianna. That is the only absolute must have. I have a few others on my list that will tag along, but this will be my main polish.

This post is incredibly helpful. I could make both a “gotta have it” and a “nope, not this month” list. My #1 is definitely the po-tay-toe with catnip. My cats will love me. For me, I think it’s probably the Baby Girl peel off base coat. I also like the two pokemon polishes for Squirtle and Bulbasaur. Thanks for the chance.

I gotta have the DIRT!! I am SO excited for the bluebird cuticle balm. I already have a handmade soap that smells like garden dirt, so the balm will match.
Also, curious Lisa! What color was your old fave VS scent? Was it pale blue? I think it might have been Endless Love based on the description of the scent of the product that reminds you of it. I worked there for 6 years so I remember alllllll of them.

So many choices but Elemental Brew is my favorite
I’m having one of those months where I thought I could skip it and then I saw cinnamon hearts top coat and my brain went sideways. So that’s probably my top pick but I’m also really drawn to Paint It Pretty and The Lady Varnishes.
