A little over a month ago I was given the opportunity to try out skin care from Paula’s Choice and give my honest opinion on the products. I had the opportunity to have a skin consultation with a Paula’s Choice representative (which was fabulous!) and she selected products that would be perfect for my skin type.
My skin has always been finicky which drives me nuts. It’s oily and dry at the same time (combo skin) so while I have dry patches, I also have fun oily spots which makes it difficult to find skin care that doesn’t dry out my skin, while also keeping the oil slick at bay. I have mild breakouts and at 33, I’m starting to see that my skin is aging right along with me.
The Paula’s Choice expert I spoke to was able to talk to me about my skin and work out the perfect routine with me. Not only that, after we picked out my routine, she sent me a detailed sheet for a day/night routine that would work out for me. She was really awesome to talk to and I can’t gush about her enough.
Ok, so let’s get into my new routine!
Hydralight Cleanser
I’ve been using the Hydralight Cleanser every morning and every night. This is a great cleanser for normal, oily or combination skin and is fairly gentle. I felt so refreshed and squeaky clean after using it!
At night this removed all traces of my makeup (except my mascara, I use a gentle remover for my eyes)
Hydralight Toner
I followed up the Hydralight Cleanser with Hydralight Toner every morning and every night. Toner is something I’ve used in the past, but it wasn’t routine for me (even though everything I’ve read said I should.. I take a lot of shortcuts)
This stung a little bit on the first couple of uses, but then my skin just adjusted and got use to it.
Hydralight Moisture-Infusing Lotion
Moisturizer has always been part of my routine, so this part I knew! I applied a thin layer of Hydralight Moisture-Infusing Lotion after the toner and it absorbed into my skin fairly fast and didn’t leave behind a tight or oily feeling.
Clear Treatment
I didn’t use the Clear Treatment all the time. This is basically a spot treatment so I treated problem areas with it as needed and it definitely helped keep my small breakouts minimal. I still had them, don’t get me wrong – but I didn’t seem to have them as much, and my tax season just ended (TODAY!! YAY!) so this was my stressful time where breakouts occur due to lack of sleep, worse than normal choices when snacking and the nervous habit I have of touching my face a lot.
Hydralight SPF 30
Hydralight SPF 30 was my final step during the morning routine. This is a light lotion that gave my skin an almost mattified look, which I liked. It also has SPF 30 in it which is a must have for me. Usually I look for moisturizers that already have SPF in it, but most I find don’t have this high of a SPF level.
RESIST Serum | RESIST AHA 10% | Blotting Papers
These are the extra items added in to my night routine (except the blotting papers, I take those with me during the day!)
At night before bed I used RESIST 10% AHA two nights a week instead of Hydralight Moisture-Infusing Lotion and the RESIST Ultra-Light Serum in place of the spot treatment.
While I’ve used some Paula’s Choice cosmetics in the past, I had never tried their skin care, and I’m kicking myself for it now! My skin has looked better and more vibrant lately. I’ve only been using it for about a month now, but I will definitely continue to use it until I run out and if I’m still loving it – this will be my new skin care routine. It took me a bit to get into the habit of doing more than exfoliate, cleanse and moisturize – but once I did it was much easier.
I was sent an exfoliator to use as well…
While I liked the exfoliator, I felt it was too much for my skin and only used it once a week. It works really well, but the routine I was set up with made it so it was no longer necessary. I use to use an exfoliator every other day around my nose area but it just simply hasn’t been needed!

Can’t wait to have my consultation!
Even with my oily skin, these sound like they would work for me. I love the idea of a matte moisturizer!
What a wonderfully thorough review! Thanks for sharing.
So happy to see you trying Paula’s Choice! Love them!
I like the sound of that hydralight moisturiser and the blotting papers – must-haves for oily skin!
I’m loving the reviews for this line! I’ll need to try out a system that will work for me… I love their products!
I had a travel kit with that Blemish treatment and it’s amazing! Seriously, cleared out my hormonal skin in like a week.
Paula’s Choice’s other lines are great too. I use their Skin Recovery serum and cleanser, and Moisture Boost moisturizer. Seriously, I had no idea skin could feel so nice.
I’d love to have that consultation. They should offer that for all their customers with a big enough purchase.
It looks amazing
I love Paula’s Choice! affordable but great quality products
Matte moisturizers for the win! This is a must for me, especially during the summer. I have yet to try Paula’s Choice products, but the more I read about them, the more I want to try them.
I am a huge fan of Paula’s Choice!
Hydralight Moisturizer, that sounds like something I could love! :)
