OPI Color Paints Swatches, Review & An Attempt At Nail Art

I have the OPI Color Paints to show you tonight.  When they were first announced my first thought was that they would be a follow up to Sheer Tints and I had a fear they would be just as stringy,  I assure you they aren’t though, and of the 2, I much prefer the Color Paints.

The biggest difference between the Sheer Tints and Color Paints is that the Sheer Tints were top coats and only came in 4 colors.  They had the tendency to be stringy and a bit of a pain to work with.  Color Paints are basically jelly polishes.  They have a bit more opacity than the Sheer Tints and apply really nicely.

Let’s take a look at the Color Paints and some of my attempts at nail art.

Silver Canvas

Silver Canvas

Silver Canvas is a silver chrome and is made to be a sort of base for the Color Paints.  OPI describes it as a canvas to put your masterpieces on.  I used 1 coat for this photo.  It’s incredibly opaque, but as you can see it has the tendency to show the brush strokes.

For all of the photos of the Color Paint shades I used 1 coat of Silver Canvas on the ring finger nail so you can see it over it’s “canvas” as well as on it’s own.

Magenta Muse

Magenta Muse

Magenta Muse is a pink tinted red jelly.  I used 1 coat over Silver Canvas on my ring finger and 2 coats of all other nails.

Chromatic Orange

Chromatic Orange

Chromatic Orange is an intense orange jelly.  I used 1 coat over Silver Canvas on my ring finger and 2 coats of all other nails.

Primarily Yellow

Primarily Yellow

Primarily Yellow is a warm yellow jelly.  I used 1 coat over Silver Canvas on my ring finger and 2 coats of all other nails.

Landscape Artist

Landscape Artist

Landscape Artist is a medium-to-dark grass green. I used 1 coat over Silver Canvas on my ring finger and 2 coats of all other nails.

Pen & Pink

Pen and Pink

Pen & Pink is one of my favorites of the set!  This is a vibrant pink jelly.  I used 1 coat over Silver Canvas on my ring finger and 2 coats of all other nails.

Purple Perspective

Purple Perspective

Purple Perspective is a grape purple jelly. I used 1 coat over Silver Canvas on my ring finger and 2 coats of all other nails.

Turquoise Aesthetic

Turqouise Asthetic

Turquoise Aestheric is a deep turquoise jelly.  This one stains so make sure you have a good base coat for it.  It’s the only one I experienced staining with. I used 1 coat over Silver Canvas on my ring finger and 2 coats of all other nails.

Indigo Motif

Indigo Motif

Indigo Motif had the most coverage of all of the Color Paints.  This is a deep indigo.  I used 1 coat over Silver Canvas on my ring finger and 2 coats of all other nails.

Some Nail Art

For the attempted nail art I played a bit with some of the colors.  They aren’t amazing, but hey – I tried!  There is a lot you can do with Color Paints, so play with them a bit!

Simple Flames

For this I started painting 1/3 of each nail with Silver Canvas and then used a toothpick to drag some of the paint down into a flame like look.

Then I used Pen & Pink over it.

Stained Glass

All

This wasn’t really a serious attempt.  I used all 8 Color Paints and Silver Canvas, wiped as much as I could off the brushes and randomly swiped areas of each nail.  It takes on a stained glass effect and the overlapping shades create new shades.

Stamping

Stamping

Here I used Magenta Muse as a base, stamped with Silver Canvas and then went over the stamping with Magenta Muse again.  I really loved how this one came out!

Color Paints over Holo Glitter

Hexy Bikini

For this I wanted to show the Color Paints over a glittery base coat.  I used KBShimmer Hexy Bikini as a base (shown above)

Then I used each Color Paint and painted half of each nail a different color to show all 8 over holo glitters.

Overview

If I had to choose between Sheer Tints and Color Paints, I would pick Color Paints over and over again.  They glided on easily, have a gorgeous “juicy” appearance and were easy to work with.  They look good alone, but also over Silver Canvas.  I did not use top coat for any of these photos and you can see how shiny they are.

Price: $9.50 retail ($5.95 CAN salon, $11.50 CAN retail)

WHERE TO FIND THEM: Explore these shades from May 2015 at ULTA, ULTA.com, and select professional salons.

What did you think of the OPI Color Paints?  Will you be picking any up?

I wonder, does it work with other silver polish? Because i have plenty of them, and i don’t need another. Thx for the swatches.

It seems like you would be able to. I’ll give a few silvers a try and let you know!

I love all of these looks. I stumbled upon the pink at TJMaxx, and didn’t realize I needed the silver to go under…I have a silver OPI, and I may try that and see if it works Thanks for sharing!
