Nicole by OPI has released a 4 piece Limited Edition Collection of matte textured polishes. The collection name is Roughles and I really love the name!
Ok I’m going to start this off by saying that texture polishes are a personal preference type polish. I generally LOVE texture polishes but there are some I’m just ‘meh’ about. Unfortunately this set didn’t thrill me. I think it was the lack of sparkle. The shades of the polishes were gorgeous, but still not enough to wow me.
Let’s take a look so you can decide for yourself!
Sand In My Shoe
Sand In My Shoe is a pale golden yellow texture polish with orange speckles mixed in. I used 2 coats for this photo.
On What Grounds?
On What Grounds? was one of the 2 I liked best within this collection. On What Grounds? is a turquoise texture polish with blue and purple speckles within it. I used 2 coats for this photo.
Rock The Look
Rock The Look is a pink texture polish with peachy orange speckles mixed in. I used 2 coats for this photo.
I’m Stucco On You
I’m Stucco On You is probably my favorite of the 4 (well, it IS purple, so it was a given!) I’m Stucco On You is a purple texture polish with blue and pink speckles mixed in. I used 2 coats for this photo.
Overview
Like I said, textures are a preference polish and usually I am all about them, but this collection just didn’t wow me. I usually LOVE Nicole by OPI textures – but this is the first matte set of textures they’ve done (I could be mistaken though, my brain is fairly fried from work). Application wise, I had no issues. They spread on like a typical texture and dried in decent time. I do love the color schemes and the added texture glitter (which I like calling speckles for some reason). For a Spring collection – this one is dead on perfect for the season. I may use these for nail art, but probably not for a full mani.
Texture wise, they are rougher than previous textures Nicole by OPI has put out. It won’t scratch you up badly or anything, but it may snag easier on more delicate clothing.
I really wanted to love this collection when I saw the press release, so I am a little sad that they didn’t blow me away.
Nicole by OPI formulas are long-lasting, fast-drying, and salon-quality. This is definitely a unique type of texture that I haven’t seen before…. it almost looks like a brick type of texture? Can’t put my finger on it. Not a huge fan though, although the shades are so pretty. I’m also glad that they brought texture to the Nicole by OPI collection since they are a tad more affordable than regular OPI polishes.
It reminds me of those popcorn ceiling textures
I actually really like all 4 shades. Even the yellow!
I LOVE the shades. I’m just not sold on matte textures
I thought they had sparkle! bah, humbug. I do like the speckles, but it’s really only noticeable in the yellow one, which reminds me of Easter eggs! I’ll probably pass on these, unless I see them on clearance.
That texture is totally giving me the willies. But you did a beautiful job with swatches!
great photos though I too am not sold on the textured polishes. I like the old skool smooooooth polishes.
Love the texture and the colors.
I’m really tempted to try these because I love all texture polishes. Some of my favorite matte ones are from L.A. Girl, actually, haha. I may or may not have to get these JUST to have them. The colors ARE amaze though!
I like most textured polish but I’m not feeling these.
I like On What Grounds?!
I really like this eggshell texture, I think it’s my favorite type :)
I feel the same way… the press release seemed so promising!
They look like…. fuzzy. Like the nail was dragged against a cottonball or something hahah
I totally had high hopes for these.. They definitely need sparkle!
Do you remember a toy that had foam you squeezed out of a bottle and it would set up like this? It was such an early ’70’s thing.
I’m not the biggest fan of textured polish but I love the color of ‘Sand In My Shoe’
I can see why you weren’t thrilled. Beautiful swatches, though.
Yeahhh, these aren’t really for me. I basically need shimmer in my textures. Glad I don’t need these though because I neeeeed so many other polishes already.
I love the pink one!
[…] bloggers have them already and here are some good swatches: BeautyGeeks and ChitChatNails and Cosmetic Sanctuary. BeautyGeeks shows them as is and also with a clear shiny top coat, but doesn’t like them […]
