Lollipop Posse Lacquer The Midsummer Midnights Collection Swatches & Review

This past May I showed you the Lollipop Posse Lacquer debut collection – The Dancing Girl.  Now Lollipop Posse Lacquer is setting up to release her second collection on July 13th which is The Midsummer Midnights Collection. This collection was inspired by memories of hot summer nights filled with endless possibilities and a lot of self-discovery.

While The Dancing Girl collection brought us vivid, bright shades, The Midsummer Midnights collection is a darker collection and really gets you in the mood for Fall (hey, it’s not that far away!) but is still light enough to rock in the Summer months.

For each shade I’ll include the description as well as the makers notes about the shade and the inspiration it was drawn from!

Backwards and Inside Out

Backwards and Inside Out is a linear holographic with a dark green base that will show a subtle shift to navy blue. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Backwards and Inside Out is the girl who is always just a bit off-balance in one way or another. Her sweater’s on backwards and inside out; she’s buzzing on caffeine and lack of sleep; time flies for her and she wonders where it went. Why can’t she just find some patience? Will her heartbeat ever slow? If she ever finds this peace, this justice, will she finally be satisfied?

“Do I stress you out? My sweater’s on backwards and inside out, and you say how appropriate.” ~Alanis Morissette, “All I Really Want”

This Fruit Was Bruised

Lollipop Posse Lacquer The Midsummer Midnights Collection This Fruit Was Bruised Swatch

This Fruit Was Bruised is a burgundy/purple linear holographic. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.  One of my favorites in the collection!

This Fruit Was Bruised is the girl who gave too much of herself and now must use the stillness of a midsummer midnight to try and heal. Love (is it ever really?) never comes at the right time for her. In the end, she’s content to bruise and bleed; at least it’s evidence that there once was… a possibility.

This fruit was bruised, dropped off and blue. Out of season, happy I’m bleeding. Long overdue. Too early and it’s late too.” ~PJ Harvey, “Happy and Bleeding”

But I Haven’t Met You Yet

Lollipop Posse Lacquer The Midsummer Midnights Collection But I Haven’t Met You Yet Swatch

But I Haven’t Met You Yet is a deep pink-leaning red crelly with pink micro flakies. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

But I Haven’t Met You Yet is our wild optimistic. She knows that something is going to happen, and teetering on the precipice is almost as delicious as the payoff. She pushes through the heat of a midsummer night to find that one thing, that one person, who has been promised to her in her dreams. She knows that when they finally meet, they’ll remember one another from a life before.

“I miss you, but I haven’t met you yet. So special, but it hasn’t happened yet. You are gorgeous, but I haven’t met you yet. I remember, but it hasn’t happened yet.” ~Bjork, “I Miss You”

That’s How Witch Babies Are

Lollipop Posse Lacquer The Midsummer Midnights Collection That's How Witch Babies Are Swatch

Lollipop Posse Lacquer The Midsummer Midnights Collection That’s How Witch Babies Are Swatch

That’s How Witch Babies Are is a gorgeous blurple crelly base with neon purple flakies and a scattered holographic effect. I used 3 thin coats for these photos.

Witch Baby looks around at her eccentric family and wonders why she feels so out of place and disjointed. She was raised by a Secret Agent Lover Man and a Weetzie Bat and lots of love, but where does she really fit in? There must be someone who can still the rattling of her insides, who can pull her fingers from the snarls of her hair. But… Until she can find that person, she’ll stay invisible in the corner, snapping pictures of her slinkster cool family and papering her walls with news clippings that you would rather not read.

“Pulling heads off Barbies, sticking them on the TV antenna and ruining the reception. But that’s how witch babies are.” ~Francesca Lia Block, from her novel “Weetzie Bat”

Inside My Head

Lollipop Posse Lacquer The Midsummer Midnights Collection Inside My Head Swatch

Lollipop Posse Lacquer The Midsummer Midnights Collection Inside My Head Swatch

Inside My Head is a black jelly base with micro holographic gold glitter and multiple sizes of gold flakes. This is another shade I fell in love with. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. The lighting sort of made the black jelly base look deep brown above, but trust me, it’s a nice black jelly base!

Inside My Head is a girl similar to our bruised fruit, although she sings her mad love song to someone fleeting and maybe even unknown. It’s well past midnight and the heat still hangs oppressively in the air; she’s sitting alone at the diner, nursing her coffee, staring through the window at the flickering lights outside. She’ll stay here, inside her head, and try to remember that name that floats just on the edge of her grasp.

“I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead; I lift my lids and all is born again. (I think I made you up inside my head.)” ~Sylvia Plath, from her poem “Mad Girl’s Love Song

Slipping Out Of Time

Slipping Out Of Time

Lollipop Posse Lacquer The Midsummer Midnights Collection Slipping Out Of Time Swatch

Slipping Out Of Time is a navy crelly base with blue-gold shifting flakes and silver holographic microglitters mixed in.  I used 2 coats for these photos and a glossy top coat.

Slipping Out Of Time is our girl who likes to float on the breeze, but has landed in a place where she needs to finally make a decision – will she sacrifice her sense of self for the possibility of more? She needs to steel her heart and her mind against those who would take, take, take from her. The time for change is at hand, but still, she’s going to slip away for a bit… Maybe when she comes back, she’ll know which sacrifice to make.

“The looking glass, so shiny and new. How quickly the glamour fades. I start spinning, slipping out of time. Was that the wrong pill to take?” ~Florence and the Machine, “Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)”

Lollipop Posse Lacquer The Midsummer Midnights Collection Overview

PicMonkey Collage

What a gorgeous collection! I really love Lollipop Posse Lacquers inspiration and explanations for each shade. Application wise, I had no issues with any of these, but the consistency of each polish is a touch different than I am use to. When applying they go on almost like a gel.  They do glide onto the nail and apply with ease, and they almost seem like they would be too thick – but they aren’t.  I know I experienced this with The Dancing Girl collection as well, and again – no issues.  I had no pooling, and they self leveled beautifully.

Price: $9.50 – $11.00 Each | $57.00 Full Collection (and free shipping in the US)

Release Date: July 13th, 2015
