Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics recently released a Stained Gloss Lip Tar collection to their line up. I got into OCC Lip Tars a few months ago and they are among my top lip color items to use! If you’ve never used Lip Tars, they are nifty little tubes of super pigmented lip color! Some of the colors look WAY “out there” in terms of color, but you can mix and match Lip Tars to create your own custom shade! You only need a little bit too, a little goes a LONG way with these babies!
I received 5 of the new Stained Gloss Lip Tars from an online shop named LeCosmetique.com! I can tell you now, I will be ordering quite a few beauties from this shop!
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (OCC) Stained Gloss Lip Tars are slightly different from the normal Lip Tars. The normal range of Lip Tars are semi matte when applied and they go on close to completely opaque in just one pass. Stained Gloss Lip Tars are pretty much what the name implies – glossy. They have more of a lip stain with some gloss on top appearance than a lipstick (like the normal Lip Tars have). Each tube comes with a small lip brush for application as well!
Now on with the review. To start I will say this: It’s about 95 degrees in my bathroom today which is where I do my makeup. We don’t have central A/C . Because of this I decided to do minimal makeup. By ‘minimal’ I mean I only dusted some face powder on and then applied the Stained Gloss Lip Tars. Even that little bit of powder made me feel like the makeup was melting off my face. So I apologize for the “blah” photos of my face. The Stained Gloss Lip Tars look fine though ;)
Androgyne
Androgyne is a brightened tangerine orange shade. I was a little surprised that it showed up so nicely on me, I was expecting a MUCH brighter shade and thought I would need to use this mixed with other Lip Tars. You CAN layer this up to a brighter orange if that’s what you are going for, I personally am happy with it as is. It makes a pleasing nude shade with my skin tone. This is just 2 coats of Androgyne by itself.
Jealous
Jealous is a Popsicle reddish pink shade. This adds a nice pop of bright color without being over the top! I used just 1 layer of Jealous on its own for this photo.
New Wave
New Wave is a glassy neon pink shade. I only used 1 layer of New Wave as well, but like all of the colors you can keep layering it up to the brightness you want! This is my second favorite of the collection!
Meta
Meta is another favorite in this collection! Meta is a red orange glassy shade. I used 2 layers of Meta for this photo!
Rhythm Box
Rhythm Box was my unexpected favorite of the group and probably will be my most used of the 5 I received! Rhythm Box is a translucent purpled burgundy shade. I only needed 1 layer for this photo and I ADORE this shade!!
Here is an up close shot of all 5 Stained Gloss Lip Tars against my pale skin (I used the underside of my arm for these):
(from left to right: Jealous, Androgyne, Meta, Rhythm Box, New Wave)
See how bright these can be? They won’t all show up this brightly on your lips since your lips have a natural pigmentation, but if you layer them up – they will get pretty close!
There is one more Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetic Stained Gloss Lip Stain in the collection that I did not get, and it’s called Voyeur. Voyeur is a yellow glaze shade that creates a peach neutral. I may need to grab it now because I had the same thoughts about Voyeur as I did about Androgyne – that I would never use it. Androgyne proved me wrong, so that one might as well!.
Overall – I am in LOVE with the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Stained Gloss Lip Tars! I will use them just as much, if not more, than the rest of my Lip Tars! I’m planning on layering some of these glossy beauties over the normal Lip Tars as well!
These CAN be a tiny bit drying! I do suggest using the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Clear Lip Tar as a base, especially with the normal Lip Tars to prime your lips a bit. You will also want to use lip liner with all Lip Tars to avoid “feathering” (which is when your lip color seeps in a little outside the lip line).
You can find all 5 of these Obsessive Compulsive Stained Gloss Lip Tars, as well as normal Lip Tars at LeCosmetique.com for $18.00 each.
Each tube of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tars are .33 fl oz. This may sound small, but like I said earlier, a little goes a LONG way!
Shop online at LeCosmetique.com and you can get 10% off your order (and this is NOT a 1 time use! You can use it every time you shop here!) by using the code SAVE10
Hope you enjoyed the review! If you like lip products and haven’t tried Obsessive Compulsive Lip Tars yet, you should!
