Hello again! After a long day of work (and my 6th day of work this week) I’m finally showered and settled in for some blogging. It’s been a longish week. Work wasn’t too bad – I actually work with some incredible people, so that makes the busy season easier to deal with. But it has been raining all week pretty much. Luckily the commutes haven’t been horrible, considering the rain.
On Tuesday I left work to pick my son up for a doctor’s appointment for the cough he has had for several weeks and I couldn’t get my car shifted out of ‘Park’ so I was frantically texting Nick and he said to pump the brakes and a few other things, nothing worked. He finally looked up where the manual override is for my car and I used that to shift it out and pick Jacob up. I was able to drive, but I had no brake lights. Wonderful. I got Jacob to the doctor and luckily the cough is just a cough and he got 2 inhalers to use for 10 days until it clears up. He’s already doing much much better.
Wednesday I took my car into the shop to find out what was going on. Nick was on school duty to drop Jacob off because I was not driving in rush hour traffic, in the rain with no brake lights. I found out that after 243,560 miles (I’ve had my Toyota Avalon since 2000)- the brake light switch had given out. It’s a safety mechanism in some cars (not sure if all?) that if the brake lights aren’t triggering, you can’t shift out of park. $121 later I had a new brake light switch and I no longer needed my glass nail file to push the override button.
Short story long – my son is just fine and my car is back to normal.
Now let’s get into what you all are really here for – The Holo Hookup April 2018 box!
This month the theme is Tulips!
As always, I’ll do a quick rundown for those new to The Holo Hookup!
This is an all holographic box and each month it will have 3 constant indie makers in it – Glisten & Glow, DIFFERENT dimension and Cupcake Polish. Each month there will also be one “guest” contributor, and for April 2018 the guest maker is Lacquester!
While playing with these I found that all 4 actually stamp, so I stamped with them all!
Let’s see what they have in store for us this month!
Cupcake Polish – Shut Your Tulips
Cupcake Polish Shut Your Tulips is a vibrant yellow toned orange linear holo packed with super shiny silver shimmers. I used 2 easy coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Different Dimension – Tulip Mania
Different Dimension Tulip Mania is a bright berry red linear holographic with added shimmers. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Glisten & Glow – Kiss my Tulips
Glisten & Glow Kiss my Tulips is an eggplant purple linear holographic with a nice pink glowy effect. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Lacquester – Tulipazuli
Lacquester Tulipazuli is a blue holographic jelly base with a ton of color shifting pigment that goes from a red to bronzey tone and multichrome flakes mixed in. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
I also decided to use each shade to stamp over a black creme using a Tulip stamp design from a What’s Up Nails plate I just got in, and it was perfect for the theme.
From the index finger on down – we have Cupcake Polish Shut Your Tulips, Lacquester Tulipazuli, Different Dimension Tulip Mania and Glisten & Glow Kiss My Tulips on the pinky.
The Holo Hookup April 2018 Tulips
I enjoyed this selection of colors and I was actually pretty happy all 4 had capabilities of stamping. Not sure if you can tell – but I am still practicing my stamping and I have been using Holo Hookup to test them out a lot. So when I find all 4 stamp I’m really excited about it. The Lacquester is the most subtle, but it looks crazy good over black if you look at the Tulip stamp above (middle finger)
Application wise – all 4 were nicely done and applied in 2-3 coats with no issues.
Price: $40.00
