Polishing Poetic 2.0 Collection

I had some plans today to get so much done.. and then the power went out. I have about an hour before I’ll be offline, so I’m trying to knock a few out before I go. First up this afternoon is the Great Lakes Lacquer Polishing Poetic 2.0 Collection!

This collection is a follow up to the initial collection that launched in February of last year. This is a much softer version though!

Usually I leave my lighting alone, but for these photos I used tissue paper to diffuse the light a bit. With my normal lighting it was darkening the polishes too much, so they were far from accurate. That’s why the polish looks “softer” – it’s because they are!

Let’s jump in!

Without Ever Having Felt Sorry For Itself

Without Ever Having Felt Sorry For Itself is a soft gold to lime to seafoam blue to azure and there’s sparks of lavender at the most extreme angles. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Poem made famous by GI Jane.  I love the fact that it is used to exemplify feminism from a mostly male-centric author.

“I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself.” ~ DH Lawrence

Yearning To Breathe Free

Yearning To Breathe Free is a sky blue to purple to fuchsia and a touch of orange at extreme angles.  I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Inscribed on The Statue of Liberty, this poem is by Emma Lazarus.
The New Colossus:
“Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

A Dream Within A Dream

A Dream Within A Dream is an electric turquoise to aqua to royal purple with a touch of fuchsia at the edges. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Edgar Allan Poe.  I need not say more.
“Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow —
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.
I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand —
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep — while I weep!
O God! Can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem

But a dream within a dream?”

The Fire In My Eyes

The Fire In My Eyes is a silvery violet to fuchsia pink to orange to gold to green.  I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Maya Angelou’s Phenomenal Woman needs to be in everyone’s reading lineup.
“Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling lies.
I say,
It’s in the reach of my arms,
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.
I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It’s the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.
Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can’t touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them,
They say they still can’t see.
I say,
It’s in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.
Now you understand
Just why my head’s not bowed.
I don’t shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing,
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It’s in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need for my care.
’Cause I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,

That’s me.”

Listen Close To Me

Listen Close To Me is my favorite of the collection! This is a bright pink to watermelon pink to peach to gold with a strong green flair at the edge. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Mayhap be the poem that started me on my love of them.  By Shel Silverstein.

“Listen to the mustn’ts, child. Listen to the don’ts. Listen to the shouldn’ts, the impossibles, the won’ts. Listen to the never haves, then listen close to me… Anything can happen, child. Anything can be.”

Great Lakes Lacquer Polishing Poetic 2.0 Collection

These are such soft, beautiful, shifty shades! I had no application issues BUT these are sheerer shades. You can layer them if you wish as well. Because of the pigments, you also want to let each coat dry before doing another or it could drag.

Otherwise, application was perfect and these are incredible!
