Polish Pickup | Duos & Pairs

It’s that time again! Polish Pickup is almost upon us and I have another jam packed post to share! Here we will be looking at the February 2019 Polish Pickup with the theme Duos & Pairs!

I’m going to start by saying that this was quite possibly the most complicated theme we’ve seen to date. If you’re a regular reader, you know I’ve been covering 40 items a month (on average) since January of 2018 – and probably 12 a month before January of 2018. I’ve seen a lot of themes. While it is a fun theme, there are various interpretations the makers had freedom with.

Makers had the option of pairing up with another maker to create shades that went together in some way. They could make a polish/item for one of the Pickups and have the “pair” sold in their personal shop. They could make a single shade with a famous duo or pair as inspiration. They could also make a Polish Pickup item with the duo item being part of Indie Pickup.

Starting to see why it can be complicated from a blogger’s perspective?

Initially I was going to do “paired” posts through the month, but the flu hit the first week of January and lingered until last week with aches and spotty fever… then my son got hit with a cold. Add in start of tax season – and I had no way to prepare the posts in time. So one giant post it is!

Yeah I’m chatty tonight – but it’s a lot to cover.

Basically this is how I’m tackling it. I combined all of Polish Pickup and Indie Pickup offerings I received here. Now that the shops run together – it’s easier to do it this way. I’m also including polishes that were made for maker’s stores that have a “pair” in Polish Pickup. I will include links to those individual stores under each listing. Of the 52 items I’m showing, 3 are Indie Pickup, 5 are in individual shops and 44 are Polish Pickup.

Okay, I’m still chatty but I’ll shush up. Let’s jump into these – it’s gonna be a long night of typing. This month’s shop runs from February 1st until February 4th. The polishes offered in maker’s shops will only be available during that time frame as well.

77 Nail Lacquer | We Got Some Great Chemistry

Description: We Got Some Great Chemistry is a deepened teal creme base with gold to blue to green ultrachrome chameleon flakes and blue to green shifting pigment. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This shade is a touch deeper in person.

Alter Ego Body Care Products | Ice Beard Oil

Description: Ice Beard Oil is a beard oil, but it can also be used as a body/cuticle oil. I’ve been using it on my cuticles and it’s been really nice. It has a cooling feeling and peppermint & tea tree oil type scent. It comes in a glass bottle with a dropper style applicator.

Description: Accepted at Pigfarts is a turquoise jelly base when cold and colorless when warm that’s full of what Lou calls “farts”. The “farts” are mulrichome shifting flakes that show shades of purple, blue, bronze, orange and red. There’s also holo scattered within, as well as aurora shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Description: Johnny is a black crelly based scattered holographic with a subtle teal to blue to purple shifting shimmer. In some lights it appears to be black with a scattered holographic, but when light hits, the shimmer comes alive. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Inspiration: Turk & JD from Scrubs

Description: Dude, We’re A Little Married is a thermal that is a grass green when warm and shifts to a pale dusty blue when warm, plus it’s packed with blue to green and indigo to purple shifting shimmers, holo microflakes, indigo and midnight microglitters and lime to blue to gold ultrachrome chameleon flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

The blue shift is a stronger blue, but it’s been chillier here and my Connecticut born boyfriend loves thinking we live in the Arctic – so he has the AC on still. My thermal started transitioning during photos back to cold state due to my icicle like hands.

Description: Wonderstruck is a top coat loaded with multisized gold flakes. It’s scented too – and it’s scented with sweet, fresh pineapple. This smells DELICIOUS. If you love pineapple, you need it. This isn’t a quick dry, but does fully dry within about 10 minutes.

Description: Confection Nail Fortifier is a non greasy creamy formula fortified to help nails stay strong and healthy with moisturizing ingredients for the ultimate nutrition for your nails.

This month’s Confection Nail Fortifier is in Dole Whip (Sweet, Juicy Pineapple) and it smells incredibly good. I’ve had it for 2 weeks now, and it’s 1/4 gone already. I haven’t used it long enough to say if it improves my nails, however – it does work well on cuticles to keep them moisturized and happy after long swatch sessions.

Description: Morphe is a sheer turquoise jelly base with pink to gold aurora shimmer and color shifting iridescent flakes that flash blue, pink and violet. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This color is really sheer, and I would estimate you’d need 4 regular coats – 5 thin coats minimum for opacity. If you have a more opaque free edge, then it would take more. You can layer over a creme base to reach opacity though if sheer isn’t for you. I showed it alone, but layered over a similar creme or black creme – the aurora comes out to play and shines.

I didn’t layer it because I didn’t want to give the false illusion of opacity if someone saw the photo and not my description. Either way – it is a stunning shade.

Galatea | Just A Little Bit of Steam Whipped Soap

Inspiration: Frank-N-Furter & Rocky from The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Description: Just A Little Bit Of Steam Whipped Soap is a musky scent with black tea, sweet fruits and spice. It’s unisex, but leans more masculine. I’m more into fruity/flowery scents, so I let my son have this one (and he’s already requested I get him a backup) to use and he loves it. The scent itself is really nice and pleasant. Not super musky, but there is a smoothness to it.

This is a whipped soap and has a fluffy texture to it, and it’s more of a cream texture. When wet, it does get some suds, but not like a typical soap would. When wet the texture is more milky cream like than sudsy bubbly.

Ingredients: Vegetable glycerin (humectant), sodium cocoyl isethionate (gentle coconut-derived cleanser), cocamidopropyl betaine (gentle vegetable-derived cleanser), propylene glycol (humectant), stearic acid (plant-sourced moisturizer), cetyl alcohol (plant-sourced conditioner), shea butter, proprietary fragrance, kaolin clay, diazolidinyl urea (and) iodopropynyl butylcarbamate (skin-safe preservative), citric acid.

February 2019 Polish Pickup | Duos & Pairs

Whew.. There we go – 53 items that will be available on The Pickups site or will be running the same weekend on the makers site. As I mentioned, if the “duo” is available in the makers shop, you’ll have to go there to purchase it.

And yes I know my collage looks a little rough this month. Most collage templates cut you off at 30 or 40 so it’s hard to get all the items in it. I tried my hand at a Photoshop collage and … it didn’t go well. It didn’t go horribly, but it seemed like a better idea in my head.
