Happy Wednesday! I had to stop and think what day it actually was cause… whew. This week has already been a doozy. But I’ve got 2 Fandom Flakies posts to share… and we’re starting with the Fandom Flakies Box for August 2022 with the Mortal Kombat theme!

The August 2022 guest maker is Nailed It Nail Polish… and they chose the theme Mortal Kombat for the month!

Now, when I was younger – my mom was on a bowling league. She was a single mom, so my sister and I always went with her (every Thursday night) and we would usually hang around in the arcade room. I was probably 8 or 9 at the time, and there were teenage boys (I would guess about 15 or 16?) playing Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter… and I’m not going to lie, I think hanging out in there while they played these games helped contribute to the potty mouth I have today. They did teach both my sister and I how to play and the combos for both games etc… and while we were playing they did watch their language a bit… but when it was the 2 boys playing together – I developed quite the vocabulary. And whenever I think of Mortal Kombat (or Street Fighter… ) this is what I remember.

Anyways.

So basically Fandom Flakies Box has 2 constant makers – Night Owl Lacquer and Bee’s Knees Lacquer. Ribbits Stickits is also a familiar face to the box – bringing fun add ons to the box to really bring the theme to life. Then there is a guest maker. The guest maker each month picks the theme for the box and the themes range from video games to tv shows to movies. Sometimes others – but those are the most common. Basically anything with a possible “fandom” is fair game in this box.

Every month when the shop opens there are 40 Ready To Ship boxes made. Usually it will be said as “RTS” and that’s what that means. They are ready to go.

When you purchase a box, you will only receive the 3 polishes. It’s a flat rate of $33 plus shipping for the 3 polishes, and if you want to add Ribbits Stickits goodies – then the price goes up depending on what is added. But the baseline is $33 for the 3 polishes shown.

Want only the Ribbits Stickits addons? That’s perfectly fine – you can buy those alone as well.

Once the 40 RTS boxes are gone – they essentially go into preorder. The preordered boxes will ship between 2-4 weeks after the shop closes. They do aim for sooner but as we all know – USPS has a mind of its own and it’s just not always possible.

All polishes within the box are exclusive to the box. I believe the Ribbits Stickits items are as well.

Bee’s Knees Lacquer | Get Over Here

Get Over Here is a silver holographic base with orange to green and pink to gold iridescent flakes, as well as a some black flakes scattered in. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Night Owl Lacquer | Dark Fan-Tasy

Dark Fan-Tasy is a cobalt blue jelly base loaded with black to red multichrome micro flakes, as well as holographic micro flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Nailed It! | Kiss of Death

Kiss of Death is a magenta jelly base packed with purple to blue and pink to gold crystal flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Due to the flake content, this polish does apply thicker. I didn’t have trouble applying – but if you prefer slightly thinner polishes, I do suggest adding a little thinner to get it more to a consistency you prefer.

Ribbits Stickits | Acetone Additive

Frogetaboutit Acetone Additive is a small vial of liquid that you shake up and pour into your acetone to lessen the harsh effects. It takes away that ashy look acetone can leave behind on your skin, plus gives a burst of scent to sort of cover up the smell of acetone.

If you are new to Acetone Additive, I suggest you shake the vial, pour in half, test the acetone and then pour in more as you see fit. Depending on your skin type and what type of remover you use, the amount of additive needed with vary. If you tend to have oily skin – too much will make you oily, too little and it won’t seem like you used any. It’s a balancing act so add a little, test and add more as needed.

The August scent is “This Fight Will Be Your Last” and is described as Grapefruit Mojito: mint, lime, pineapple, tangerine, rum, ozone, ginger, green leaves, vanilla, sugar – includes grapefruit, mandarin, orange, lemon, thyme, bergamot, and buchu leaf, spearmint, eucalyptus, cornmint, armoise, tangerine, galbanum, and ginger essential oils

This had a smooth and slightly musky scent profile to my nose. It didn’t smell as sweet as I expected. Almost if you took a Mojito and made it into a more mature fragrance, splashed some citrus and musk.

Ribbits Stickits | Water Slide Decals

As usual – Ribbits Stickits came up with themed water slide decal sheets!

These are like temporary tattoos for your nails. I usually cut the image I want off the sheet, set in water for 10-15 seconds, then remove the image from water and place face down on a stamping head. Then I slide the paper backing off leaving just the image on the stamper. Then I stamp the image down onto my nail firmly, lift stamper and then top coat.

There are other ways to do it – this is my preferred method.
