Press Sample of the Ethereal Lacquer
Smoke Collection & Matterhorn Oil Duos
Happy Friday! I’m on call for work tomorrow, so I’m going to be heading to bed a little early tonight – but I wanted to do one post before I pass out. We’re going to be looking at the Ethereal Lacquer Smoke Collection & Matterhorn Oil Duos!
All of these will be releasing tomorrow. The Smoke Collection will be available on Ethereal Lacquer’s website and the Matterhorn x Ethereal Duos will be on the Matterhorn website. Links will be at the bottom of this post.
We will kick things off with the Smoke Collection – which consists of 5 shades that offer a nice mix of colors and finishes.
I do use artificial lighting for my photos (I work full time and leave when it’s still dark and arrive home when it’s starting to get dark.) For a variety of lighting and skintones showcasing these polishes, make sure to check out the Ethereal Lacquer Facebook Fan Group.
All photos are shown using Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues peel off base coat and Vibrant Vinyls Fast & Hard Top Coat.
You ready?
Ethereal Lacquer | White Smoke
White Smoke is a clear base packed with shifting iridescent shimmer that shifts red to copper to gold to green. The iridescence of the shimmer gives a white appearance to the base making it incredibly opalescent like.
The shimmer is stronger in person. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. Very slight brushstrokes are visible due to shimmer content.
Ethereal Lacquer | Smoke Show
Smoke Show is a medium smokey blue-grey crelly base with red to green shifting iridescent flakes. In some lighting this will appear more grey, and in others it will appear more blue. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Ethereal Lacquer | Up In Smoke
Up In Smoke is a smokey plum jelly base with strong red to green to gold shifting shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
In person – this is a smokier looking polish. Brighter lighting like mine, as well as natural sunlight will intensify the shimmer and bring it out. However, in normal lighting – while the shimmer is still visible, it will have a smokier appearance.
Ethereal Lacquer | Burnout
Burnout is a color I think everyone should own. This is a warm olive green jelly base packed with strong red to copper to green shifting shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Much like Up In Smoke – stronger lighting and sunlight will intensify the shimmer content. In normal lighting situations, the olive base comes out more and the shimmer takes on a smokier look.
Ethereal Lacquer | Smoky Quartz
Smoky Quartz is a smoky plum jelly base packed with holographic micro flakes as well as red to green shifting shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
I pretty much want a full collection of holo micro flakes and various shifting shimmers in different base colors like this.
Ethereal Lacquer x Matterhorn | Peachy Duo
Matterhorn and Ethereal team up again for more duos and we have 2 to share here. First up is the Peachy duo!
Ethereal Lacquer Peachy is a soft, warm, peach crelly base with iridescent shifting flakes that flash gold, pink and lime. I used 2 coats in these photos and got decent opacity while maintaining the softness of the polish.
Matterhorn Peach Oil is described as a juicy and delicious peach multi-use oil with notes of fresh peaches, juicy tangerine and strawberry. Smells just like a fresh picked peach. To my nose – it reminds me of a Peach Bellini drink, which is one of my favorites.
Matterhorn oils are multi-use and can be used in hair, beards, as well as on cuticles and skin. I use it in my hair after showering. While my hair is damp, I put 6 -8 drops in my palm, rub my hands together and finger comb through the ends of my hair. It helps keep any flyaways tamed, softens my hair and gives it a nice scent. I also use it on my cuticles. Nick uses it in his beard, and Jacob (who has my thick hair) uses it in his hair after a shower as well.
Ethereal Lacquer x Matterhorn | Cotton Candy Duo
Next up is the Cotton Candy duo, which is my favorite of the duos.
Ethereal Lacquer Cotton Candy is a soft, milky, baby pink crelly base with iridescent shifting flakes that flash bright blue, purple and pink. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Matterhorn Oil Cotton Candy is described as a sweet spun sugary scent with notes of pink fluffy cotton candy, strawberry, vanilla and melted sugar. To my nose – it’s pretty much exactly as described. It smells like cotton candy, but it’s not overly sweet. It’s sweet – but not cloyingly sweet. The vanilla in it definitely tones down the sugary sweetness into a mellower scent.

Ethereal Lacquer | Smoke Collection & Matterhorn Oil Duos
This is a beautifully done release, and if I had to pick favorites – I would say Burnout, Smoky Quartz, Up In Smoke and the Cotton Candy Duo are my absolute favorites.
I had no application issues with any of these shades, and they were executed nicely.
