Happy Saturday! I have a lot of content coming your way this week. Now that the blog sale goodies have all shipped out and PBE is done and things are back to normal… I’m going to be getting a lot done on here and YouTube. Right now we’re going to look at the Ethereal Lacquer Memento Mori Collection!
The Ethereal Lacquer Memento Mori Collection is the Fall 2023 Collection for the brand and it will be releasing on August 20th. To see the full set applied – check out my YouTube channel below:
Okay so.. Memento Mori is an 8 piece collection that primarily consists of shimmers, but there is a one coat black creme as well (and it stamps!) plus I’ll be showing 2 Butterfly Bases, which are blurring base coats.
For all photos I am using Vapid Lacquer Commitment Issues Peel Off Base, and for the glossy photos I did Glisten & Glow Top Coat which was sent as PR for the Polish Pickup shop.
For my nails – they are Apres Gel X nails throughout this post, and the style is Extra Short Stiletto. I do sharpen them a bit though to get a more pointed look.

Ethereal Lacquer | Vanitas
Vanitas is a deep blue leaning teal crelly base with red to gold to green shimmer. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
The crelly base leans heavily into the creme side of crelly so opacity is reached quickly.
Ethereal Lacquer | Transience
Transience is a slightly baby blue leaning medium grey crelly base loaded with strong pink to orange to gold shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Ethereal Lacquer | Hourglass
Hourglass is a warm, medium brown crelly base with slightly larger particle red to gold shimmer. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Ethereal Lacquer | Coffin
Coffin is a deep grey crelly base loaded with slightly larger particle red to gold shimmer. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Ethereal Lacquer | Dance of Death
Dance of Death is my top pick of the set. The base color is like burnt orange and brick red had a child together, and it’s a crelly formula and loaded with strong blue shimmer. When layered up to 3 coats – it takes on a stunning warm purple look but still has some of those burnt orange tones peeking through. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Ethereal Lacquer | Ghosts Again
Ghosts Again is a deep swampyish grey jelly base loaded with blue shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Ethereal Lacquer | Memento Mori
Memento Mori is a one coat black creme. I used just 1 coat on pinky and index nails, and then I used it to stamp on middle and ring finger nails.
Ethereal Lacquer | Wilting
Wilting is a berry brownish red jelly base loaded with larger particle copper to gold to green shimmer. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
Ethereal Lacquer | Belladonna Butterfly Base
Butterfly Base is a blurring base, so you apply it before a sheerer polish to help even out the polish tone and hide some VNL.
Belladonna is a dusty lavender purple. Shown is just 1 coat of Belladonna on bare gel x nails. Then I show it under Transcience (1 coat of Transcience over 1 coat of Belladonna) as well as Transcience in 1 coat alone so you can see how much it helps.
Ethereal Lacquer | Dhalia Butterfly Base
Dhalia is the next butterfly base for blurring. I was happy to see a darker one because sometimes I prefer it for deeper shades.
Dhalia is a smokey charcoal grey blurring base. Shown in 1 coat, and then further down I show it as 1 coat of Dhalia under 1 coat of Coffin, then I show Coffin in just 1 coat so you can see the difference it makes.

I’ve been loving the sudden surge of shimmers. A few of these (like Dance of Death) are unique to my collection, which is always a pleasant surprise.
