Have you jumped into the world of essential oils yet?  It’s definitely worth looking into if you haven’t.  I always thought “Nah, I’ll just take a Motrin” if I had a headache, neck ache, or any other ailment similar.  It isn’t always necessary though!

What exactly are essential oils?

Essential oils are non water-based phytochemicals made up of volatile organic compounds. Although they are fat soluble, they do not include fatty lipids or acids found in vegetable and animal oils. Essential oils are very clean, almost crisp, to the touch and are immediately absorbed by the skin.

In addition to their intrinsic benefits to plants and being beautifully fragrant to people, essential oils have been used throughout history in many cultures for their medicinal and therapeutic benefits. Modern scientific study and trends towards more holistic approaches to wellness are driving a revival and new discovery of essential oil health applications.

The DōTERRA  rep I spoke with asked me to list some ailments I have so she could assemble an essential oil pack that would benefit me.  Some that I listed were migraines, sore muscles and insomnia.  Not only did I receive a nice assortment of oils, they arrived in a cute and convenient travel keychain pack.

The keychain pack carries 8 mini vials of essential oils.  In my pack there was Lemon, Lemongrass, Breathe. Digest-zen, Frankincense, Peppermint, Lavender and Paste-tense.  I was also given a vial of coconut oil and foil packets of Deep Blue Rub (which I will get into in just a bit).

Lets talk about the benefits of some of the essential oils I received (taken from the DōTERRA website)

Frankincense – Perhaps the most precious of the ancient oils, frankincense is highly sought after by modern consumers for its many uses, including relaxation, immune support, and mood enhancement. For aromatic, topical or dietary use.

Lavender – Our most popular oil, lavender has been cherished for its unmistakable aroma and its therapeutic properties for thousands of years. Lavender is widely used and accepted for its calming and relaxing qualities. For topical, aromatic, or dietary use.

Lemon – Another favorite, this essential oil powerhouse is cold-pressed from lemon rinds to preserve its delicate nature and potent properties. Lemon is known as a powerful aromatic, topical, and internal cleanser that can be used to complement many other oils. Diffusing lemon in a room can cleanse the air and uplift mood. It can also be used on surfaces throughout the home as a non-toxic cleaning booster. For aromatic, topical or dietary use.

Lemongrass – Lemongrass has long been used in Asian and Caribbean cooking due to its subtle lemony flavor and aroma. It has been found to support healthy digestion, and soothe aching muscles. For topical, aromatic or dietary use.

Peppermint – Peppermint is popular in countless forms, from toothpaste to chewing gum. As an essential oil, it is useful to ease breathing and as a digestive aid*. For aromatic, topical, or dietary use.

Deep Blue Rub is a cream similar to ones you purchase in drugstores for sore muscles.  It has a strong peppermint scent, but without the chemical like scent others I have tried.  There was a cooling sensation on the skin and it lasted about as long as other creams that are similar.  I do prefer this scent though.

Overview

I know this is a longer post than normal, but there was so much I received for this!  What I really enjoyed was that Christy (DōTERRA rep) tailored this to me and what I needed.  I have been using everything she sent and not only do they smell amazing, they do work so I don’t take as many pills.  The lavender oil, frankincense and peppermint are my most used and ones I will purchase in full sizes.  I will also be picking up a tube of Deep Blue Rub.

If you have serious ailments and doctor prescribed medicine, of course I’m not saying to replace it all with these oils, but sometimes you can incorporate the use of essential oils to help.
