Cartoon Collection & VNL Base Coats

Happy Tuesday! Jacob is officially a sophomore in high school and part of me is weepy thinking “My baby is growing up” and the other part of me is celebrating cause… only 3 more years of this. Soon he’ll be driving, so I only have about 6 more months of the mad dash morning commute left before it’s all on him.

Anyways – we’re here today to look at the Cupcake Polish Cartoon Collection two of the VNL Base Coats!

These are all available already in the Cupcake Polish store – so you can hop on over and snag them. The Cartoon Collection consists of 6 flake filled bases inspired by various cartoons that I remember growing up with. I don’t think we were given actual “inspired by” in writing – so I’m guessing on inspiration, but only 1 really had me wondering which it was.

As far as the VNL base coats – 4 total bases were released in a range of tones. I was sent the 2 lighter shades to play with.

We are going to start with the base coats and move onto the Cartoon Collection. I do want to state that I did not use any of these base coats with the collection so you can see the polishes as they are. I did use 2 polishes from the collection as examples within the base coat review, but I then removed the polishes and base coat and started again for the actual polish reviews.

I hope that made sense.

Let’s jump on in and take a look!

Cupcake Polish | VNL Blur # 1

VNL Blur #1 is a sheer light beige with a tinge of peachy pink. This particular blur base works best for those with pink, cool or neutral undertones. I used 1 coat for these photos.

In the photos with a polish on, I left the middle nail bare, index finger has 1 coat of polish over VNL Blur #1 and ring finger has 2 coats of polish over VNL Blur #1.

Consistency wise, this is a crelly that leans in the more creme side

Cupcake Polish | Ooh La La Base Coat

Ohh La La is a neutralizing base coat to help conceal your VNL but also can be used as a french manicure base coat.

While VNL Blur #1 is a great match for my skin tone, Ooh La La is actually my favorite to wear alone. This is a light candy pink crelly and below I show it in 1 coat.

Under polish as a VNL blue, I show it alone on the middle nail, 1 coat on ring finger and 2 coats on index finger.

Cupcake Polish | Zoinks!

Zoinks! is a slightly dusty medium purple crelly base with gold to green to pink iridescent flakes mixed in. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Zoinks! is from Scooby Doo!

This shade does darken with a third coat, but I actually really like the look in just 2 coats.

Cupcake Polish | Cowabunga!

Cowabunga! is a slightly dusty turquoise crelly base with green to blue to violet iridescent flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Now there were 2 possibilities for Cowabunga and both work. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or The Simpsons. Considering the next one is The Simpsons, I’m leaning to this one being TMNT.

Cupcake Polish | D’oh!

D’oh! is a muted mustard yellow crelly base with red to pink to gold iridescent flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This shade is inspired by The Simpsons – more directly, Homer Simpson.

Cupcake Polish | Yabba Dabba Do

Yabba Dabba Do is a medium, slightly muted raspberry pink crelly base with red to pink to gold iridescent flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This is definitely The Flintstones

Cupcake Polish | Good Grief

Good Grief is a medium cornflower blue crelly base with blue to violet iridescent flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Good Grief is inspired by Charlie Brown/Peanuts? The term is definitely from Charlie Brown/Peanuts – however I think this polish was inspired by Lucy.

Cupcake Polish | What’s Up Doc?

What’s Up Doc? is a medium grey crelly base with blue to violet to pink to gold shifting iridescent flakes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

This is my favorite of the collection because I love how the flakes pop against the medium grey base.

This has to be inspired by Bugs Bunny.

If I had to be really picky for this release – I’d snag What’s Up Doc?, Ooh La La, Zoinks! and Cowabunga!

All of these released yesterday – so head on over and puck a few up.

There are 2 more VNL Blur Bases, so be sure to check out the Cupcake Polish group on Facebook for more swatches.
