Fall 2016 Rebel Collection
Tonight I have the China Glaze Fall 2016 Rebel Collection to share with you!
This collection has some Fall vibes to it, but it also has a few colors you don’t typically see in the Fall collections. There are some lighter cremes, shimmers, bold hues and glittery creations.
What inspired this collection? Here’s what China Glaze had to say:
Nearly 25 years after grunge exploded onto the music and fashion scene with names like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Courtney Love, comes Rebel, a new collection from China Glaze® that brings you the quintessential juxtaposition of the 90s. The 12 piece collection includes flirty and feminine pinks and pearls alongside gritty, deep purples, blues and grays, reminiscent of a flirty baby doll dress paired with a well-worn, vintage leather jacket and combat boots with fishnet tights, or ravaged jeans, a flannel and Mary Janes. The 90s attitude was wear what you want and forget the rest. Pink isn’t just for girls and combat boots aren’t just for boys, so this fall live loud, mix it up and set your inner Rebel free.
I did the majority of these swatches at 5 this morning, and I’m watching The Intern and getting ready to fall asleep, so let’s jump right into these colors and see how you feel about them!
China Glaze Fall 2016 Rebel Collection – Jagged Little Teal
Jagged Little Teal is a super creamy teal. It’s a little greener in person than my photos show. Application was a dream for this shade. 2 coats and a glossy top coat.
The name of this polish had me listening to Alanis Morissette on the way to work. I can’t even tell you how many times I listened to Jagged Little Pill when I was a teen.
China Glaze Fall 2016 Rebel Collection – Blue-Ya!
Blue-Ya! is a sapphire blue jelly base with green and blue shimmer flecks mixed in. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
China Glaze Fall 2016 Rebel Collection – Combat Blue-ts
Combat Blue-ts is a matte royal blue with shimmer throughout. This dries fairly fast, so you need to work fast. It’s hot here, so I had air conditioning on and it sped up the drying even more. The color is incredibly rich, but you need to move fast with it. I used 2 coats for these first sets of photos. After the matte photos, I added a glossy top coat so you can see it with top coat in case matte isn’t your thing (I prefer it matte though!)
and with Top Coat!
China Glaze Fall 2016 Rebel Collection – Don’t Mesh With Me
Don’t Mesh With Me is the first of 2 glittery shades in the collection. This is a lavender shimmer that also had deeper purple microglitter that took 3 coats to get to the level of opacity in these photos. I wanted to show it on it’s own – but I also did 1 shot over Jagged Little Teal so you can see 1 coat over another color, which also looks really nice!
And omg the mesh clothing in the 90’s. Yes I owned them and wore them. I had the mesh black, long sleeve top with a tank top underneath.

China Glaze Fall 2016 Rebel Collection – Holo At Ya Girl!
Holo At Ya Girl! is slightly deceiving. Is it holo? No. This is a gold shimmer packed base with iridescent, blue and green microglitters mixed in. I stared at it for a bit wiggling my fingers to see if there was holo and my eyes were tired, but no. Is it still pretty? Yes. Shown is 3 coats and a glossy top coat. I also have a closeup of 1 coat of Holo At Ya Girl! over Jagged Little Teal.

China Glaze Fall 2016 Rebel Collection – Dope Taupe
Surprisingly enough – this is one of my top picks from this collection! You cannot underestimate a good taupe! I used 2 creamy coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
China Glaze Fall 2016 Rebel Collection – Fresh Prince-ss
Fresh Prince-ss is a baby pink creme. I used 3 thin coats for these photos and it had a typical pastel like formula. The first 2 coats were a bit streaky and I needed to float the 3rd coat on to avoid more streaks. The final result was really nice though.
And come on – you can’t have a 90’s throwback name collection without some reference to Fresh Prince of Bel Air!
China Glaze Fall 2016 Rebel Collection – Heroine Chic
Heroine Chic is a metallic shimmery chocolate jelly base with flecks of red shimmer mixed in. It’s an interesting color and unique to my collection as far as I can tell. Because of the shimmer, you will see minor brush strokes. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
I have my packages shipped to my work for the most part so they aren’t sitting ducks on my front porch for people to see – and I generally pull each shade out and say the names out loud… and when you say ‘Heroine Chic’ most people who hear you will not think you were saying a female hero. Just thought I should throw that out there since I realized it as soon as I said the name out loud.
China Glaze Fall 2016 Rebel Collection – Pearl Jammin’
Pearl Jammin’ is another top pick for me. This is a baby blue base with intense coppery pink shimmer throughout. i used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. I also did a series of photos for this color with a matte top coat too.
There are slight brush strokes visible due to the shimmer.

China Glaze Fall 2016 Rebel Collection – Purple Fiction
Purple Fiction is a royal purple metallic with red and blue shimmer. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
China Glaze Fall 2016 Rebel Collection – Teen Spirit
Teen Spirit is a deep blackened blue with metallic blue flecks. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
China Glaze Fall 2016 Rebel Collection – Y’all Red-y For This?
Y’all Red-y For This is a perfect Christmas red, complete with shimmer flecks that brings out the holiday feel even more. I used 2 perfect, creamy coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
I know, I know… it’s not Christmas yet (thank goodness, I just wiped out my bank account doing back to school shopping) but this IS a holiday red.
China Glaze Fall 2016 Rebel Collection Overview
Overall, this collection was a hit for me. I like the mix of shades and finishes. Most applied surprisingly well, and the only one that gave me some issue was Fresh Prince-ss and that was typical for the lighter shade it is. Name wise – it brought back memories. I graduated high school in 2000, so I was in late Elementary, Junior High and High School throughout the 90’s and can place just about all of these names and where they drew inspiration from. Definitely nostalgic for me.
My top picks: Dope Taupe, Combat Blue-ts, Pearl Jammin’, Y’all Red-y For This and Teen Spirit
China Glaze Fall 2016 Rebel Collection will be available in August (so now) at Ulta, Sally Beauty Supply and other fine salons for $7.50 each
