Polish Pickup | At The Carnival

It’s that time again! This post is the largest I’ve done for Polish Pickup so far, so there’s a ton of love and labor poured into it. Today we’re going to be looking at the August 2019 Polish Pickup At The Carnival!

I would have started this a little earlier, but Nick was doing a blog revamp for me! Plus we’re setting up to move to a bigger server for faster load times. It seems I’ve outgrown the current one and we’re seeing sightly slower load times as the days go on.

I’m still waiting on 1 polish (that I’m aware of) that was supposed to be delivered today, but good ol’ USPS decided they wanted it one more day. So I’ll have to add that final one into this post on Monday. At this point – I have 87 items to share!

For full disclosure – I like this theme, I like the creativity makers put into their creations… but I actually hate traditional carnivals. I’m scared of clowns, I don’t like topsy turvy or spinning rides. I do like the foods and games though. My high school puts on a yearly carnival and I was dragged to it for many years.

Not my thing.

I did vote for this theme though, because while I’m not a fan of carnivals – there’s a ton of inspo that can be drawn from them. The lights at night, the foods, the scents, the people, the costumes… lots of fun if I don’t have to physically attend.

Inspiration: Based on the Madame Lulu character from The Carnivorous Carnival, part of A Series of Unfortunate Events

Description: Madame Lulu is a blue-leaning purple crelly base with copper and turquoise shimmer, as well as iridescent flakes that shift through colors of emerald, orange, pink, purple, and gold. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Inspiration: Carnival is inspired by a song of the same name by Natalie Merchant.

Description: Carnival is a light/medium grey crelly with various black and white matte glitters, as well as blue to purple to red shifting pigment. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Description:  Whirlin’ In The Moonlight is a deep navy blue creme base with micro holo gold glitters in hex and crescent moon. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Anchor & Heart Lacquer | Mermaid Tears Deep Nutrition Base Coat

Inspiration: Our favorite carnival refreshment!

Description: Mermaid Tears is a deep nutrition treatment, which can be worn as a base coat or on it’s own as a rehab treatment for brittle or weak nails. The moisturizing formula contains a smoothing complex that seals down Keratin cells, plus amino acids to help stimulate the formation of new Keratin cells while the weak sections grow out. The scent is Root Beer. It’s just like the real thing: refreshing, sweet, and just a little tangy!

Inspiration: The contemporary or “new” circus Cirque Du Soleil.

Description: Nouveau Cirque is a royal blue jelly base packed with green to teal shifting aurora shimmer, micro holo flakes, and various iridescent flakes that shift from orange to pink, aqua to purple, fuchsia to lime, and blue to green. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

The base color is deeper in person.

Description: Generic Rollercoaster Scream is a a berry jelly base packed with ultrachrome chameleon and color shifting flakes that show sparks of teal, blue, purple, pink and magenta. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Baroness X | Lemon Beignet Acetone Additive

Inspiration: “Beignets have been associated with Mardi Gras in France since at least the 16th century, and many recipes for beignets appear in French works around the same time. The word beignet (pronounced ben-YAY) comes from the early Celtic word bigne meaning “to raise.” It is also French for “fritter.” Beignets, a New Orleans specialty, are fried, raised pieces of yeast dough.” After being fried, they are sprinkled with sugar, coated with various icings and/or filled with fruit preserves, pastry cream or chocolate.

Description: Acetone Additive is a lifesaver if you use a lot (or even a little) nail polish remover. You add the vial to 8-12 ounces of remover (you can add less if you wish to) and it helps cut down the harsh effects of remover on your skin and nails.

Lemon Beignets smells delicious. Lemony bakery scent that’s sweet and will make your mouth water. It has a tartness from the lemon but it’s cut down by the sugary sweetness and dough scent.

In person the shimmer shift is super strong. On camera it’s shy though.

Bee’s Knees Lacquer | Pop Pop Pop

Inspiration: Pennywise

Description: Pop Pop Pop is a very pigmented deep red tinted lip balm that smells of kettlecorn! It glides on smooth and has really nice staying power. When the “balm” wore off, my lips had a nice rosy stain to them.

My laser hair removal sessions seem to not be lining up with my swatching, cause I had it done 2 days before photographing. So no lip swatches again.

Description: Radioactive Dancers is a bright, lime green base with white micro shimmer. This shade glows in the dark and is blacklight reactive – which I forgot when I swatched it, so no photos of either. However, the creator does have photos of it, and it will be in the shop listing so you can see for yourself. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Cuticula | Nail Nectar Cuticle Oil Push Pens

Inspiration: Carnival treats

Description: Nail Nectar is a non greasy and luxurious to the touch cuticle oil full of beneficial oils to the skin and nails. Use this product as many times as you’d like throughout the day. The cuticle oil comes in the new silent push pens with brush applicator and cap. These pens can easily be refillable.

Scent #1: ‘Funhouse’ A scrumptious blend of Oreos, Funnel Cake, and Vanilla. This is my take on the Deep Fried Oreo.

Scent #2: ‘Candy Carousel’ A mouth watering mix of Cotton Candy, Kettle Corn, and Salt Water Taffy.

Funhouse is my favorite of the 2, and the pens are super easy to use. I actually have never had a push/clicky cuticle oil pen like this … and I’m in love with them!

Cuticula | Limitless QDTC & Silk Base Coat Duo

Inspiration: Lemonade

Description: Limitless QDTC & Silk Base Coat Duo in the scent Blue Raspberry Lemonade! These smell DELICIOUS! Exactly what you’d expect if you pour a glass of blue raspberry lemonade. Slightly tart, citrusy and just enough sugar to smooth it out a little.

Limitless Quick Dry Top Coat is brand new, and it’s a 5 free quick dry top coat. I did use it as a top coat, and I didn’t experience any smearing, and I didn’t use the float method – so it did really well. The stamping I did in the photos below are what I tested it with.

Silk Base Coat is a 5 free scented strengthening base coat that adds a sheer milky look to your nails. Sometimes I just wear this and go.

Different Dimension | Cuticle Oil Pen

Inspiration:  Smells on the Carnival Midway

Description:  On The Midway is a custom blended fragrance cuticle oil that smells just like the moment you step onto the carnival midway, with notes of kettle corn, candy apples, cotton candy and lemon shakes. As soon as I opened this, I was reminded of a carnival!

The cuticle oil works well and can be used throughout the day. It soaks in nicely and if used lightly, won’t interfere with other things you’re doing.

Inspiration: confetti & serpentine blue/pink picture

Description: Confete & Serpentina is a magnetic topper that shifts from blue to pink with iridescent multichrome microflakes. I used it on it’s own for these photos cause I have a thing with lighter magnetics that have that glowy effect. You can use it alone or as a topper though (and this way you know what color to expect straight out of the bottle) I used 3 thin coats for these photos.

DRK Nails | Easy Magnetic Effect (Top Coat)

Inspiration:  The serpentine shape that a magnetic polish produces

Description:  Easy Magnetic Effect was created to make it easier to get a magnetic effect from a magnetic polish. Using this will save you time and help to get the result you want. No need for rushing! Just apply the magnetic polish as a regular one and let it dry. Then apply a generous coat of this TC in one nail and use the magnet over it (repeat in the other nails).

I was skeptical, I won’t lie. However – I am a believer now. I painted 3 thin coats of the Confete & Serpentine magnetic polish (shown above) as regular polish – no magnet used during the 3 thin coats) then I used this top coat, and after each nail I used a magnet. I got nice lines from it and it was a lot less work than usual.

Inspiration: Floriade. Floriade is an annual, month-long celebration of spring, held in Canberra, Australia.

Description: Late Night Blooms is an orchid purple base filled with pink to gold to green aurora shimmer and silver holographic micro glitters. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

In person this shade is more toned down, almost smokey haze like. It becomes this vibrant in the sun or brighter lighting though.

Inspiration:  The carnival scene in Despicable Me when Agnes gets her beloved unicorn

Description: It’s So Fluffy! is a thermal that shifts white when warm to cool toned pink when cold, packed with iridescent shimmer and flakes that shift red to gold to green. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Fat Cat Pawlished | Body Mist in Carnival by the Sea

Inspiration:  Pleasure Pier

Description: Carnival By The Sea body mist is a blend of salty mist of the sea, popcorn, sweet treats of the carnival and a hit of watermelon. My nose primarily picks up the sea mist scent (typical ocean like scent with a salty kick) and buttery popcorn.

This is a collab scent with Vapid Wax, so you can also grab the wax version of this!

Flirtin’ | Masked Costume (Thermal)

Inspiration: Photo of a costume from a Venetian Carnival

Description: Masked Costum is a thermal polish which changes from darker turquoise (cold) to lighter shades of turquoise(warm). On camera the transition is more subtle, but in person it’s quite beautiful. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Fox Fire Wax & Bath Co. | Sugar Scrub & Lip Scrub

Inspiration:  Traditional carnival treats, these are some of our favorites: funnel cakes, caramel apples and snow cones.

Description: This is a duo set that includes an emulsified sugar scrub for hands/body as well as hydrating lip scrub.

The Sugar Scrub Slushie is in the scent Caramel Apples and Funnel Cakes and it has a really good bakery type scent with notes of sweet caramel apple. This scrub leaves my hands feeling super soft and pampered and the scent lingers. My son used it too and asked if he could lick it (don’t worry – I said no)

The Hydrating Lip Scrub is in the scent Snow Cone, which smells like your typical rainbow snow cone (my favorite!) and it leaves your lips flake free and smooth. I wear a lot of matte lipsticks, so a good scrub is necessary!

Both have a finer grit sugar, so neither are harsh on your skin or lips.

Animal Crackers recreates a favorite childhood treat enjoyed at the circus, delicious, and sweet animal crackers. This fragrant scent will take you right back to your seat in the wooden bleachers listening to the cheers of the crowd!

Description: Animal Crackers is a light pink wax brittle with glitter and a fancy sprinkle mix. This wax brittle has a yummy sweet scent reminiscent of the circus – sugar cookies, cotton candy, butter creme, vanilla bean, and fluffy white marshmallow. Just place the desired amount in your wax warmer and enjoy a strong scent with a lasting fragrance. 

This is a warm, cozy, sweet scent to me and makes me want to settle in with a box of those Mother’s Circus Animal Cookies. I’m 37 and indulge in those once in awhile.

Inspiration: Fun nights at the Carnival in the summer heat, the spinning motion of the Sizzler ride and the blur of the colors and lights!

Inspiration: Venice Carnivale

Description: Gilded Mystique is a metallic slate bluish lavender stamping polish with a pale golden sheen. In some lights appears more lavender than blue.  I used 1 coat alone on pinkie and index and stamped over Anchor & Heart’s Mermaid Tears on middle and ring fingers.

Inspiration: Colourful carnival lights 

Description: Lightshow is a linear holographic top coat. It has a minty earthy mixed scent with it, and has a cooling effect on the nail. I wasn’t expecting it – but it’s kind of refreshing in 100 degree heat out here. I used 1 generous coat over Maniology Boy’s Tears.

Lemming Lacquer | Pennywise the Dancing Clown

Inspiration:  It and Pennywise

Description: Pennywise The Dancing Clown is an orange to red shimmer, gold to orange to copper to red iridescent flakes, red to bronze to copper multichrome flakes, and scattered holo microflakes in a dark reddened plum base. I used 3 thin coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.

Because of the flake content, I found this formula to seem “dry” and almost like it was drying quick while applying. I let Lemming Lacquer know and she will be fixing the base to give it more fluidity while applying while making sure it remains looking the same.

Lilly Anne’s Garden | Lip Balm Duo

Inspiration: Snow Cones & Cotton Candy

Description: Snow Cones & Cotton Candy Lip Balm Duo smell exactly as they are named. I love these balms (and all the others Lilly Anne’s Garden has made) and they leave my lips super hydrated. I’ve been pairing this with Fox Fire’s lip scrub and my lips are baby bottom smooth.

While they are strongly scented, the flavor is really light.

Description: It’s Not About The Parakeet! is a reddish orange shimmery polish with hints of red-green aurora pigment and iridescent green microflakes. I used 2 thin coats on the index and pinkie and stamped over the middle and ring finger. The deeper shades of base color show the shift in the polish beautifully.

Description: Bracelet is 7 inches with a 2 inch chain extender.Clasps are silver toned metal, all lead, nickel and cadmium free. Heart charm is a silver plated brass accented with cubic zirconia crystals. Extender chain is brass.

Inspiration: Inspired by the female high wire artists, sword swallowers, tattooed “freaks” and daredevils of the carnival! To be a carnie, you gotta be sweet and tough so I’ve created a scent that I think embodies both.

Description: Carnival Ladies is a bath fizz with top notes of peppermint & eucalyptus that die down to soft and gentle orange blossom and elder flower with a little bit of wood to round it out. Invigorating and relaxing at the same time.

This smells incredible and the scent lingers in your bathroom for HOURS. I find myself sprinkling a little in the sink and running warm water just to scent the bathroom.

The Soapy Chef | Handcrafted Resin Soap Dish and Soap Sample

Inspiration:  Inspired by the haunting and creepy Ray Bradbury book and movie called “Something Wicked This Way Comes”. The carnival comes to town, but the ringmaster is actually the devil, stealing people’s souls. 

Description: Each handcrafted resin soap dish will be different. Inks of orange, blue, pink, and yellow swirl together with black and white glitters, a dusting of 24K gold mica and a gorgeous pewter grey base. 

Since no soap dish should be without soap, you will receive a sample that also is inspired by this movie. The base reminds you of fall – orange zest, nutmeg, cinnamon, and buttery sugar. The top represents the winter to come – a combination of berry, floral, patchouli, woody, vanilla, orange, lemon, allspice, clove, pine, cinnamon, and moss. 

I actually purchased a custom made soap dish from The Soapy Chef a few months ago, and I absolutely LOVE her dishes!

Vapid Wax | Carnival by the Sea

Inspiration: Pleasure Pier

Description: Carnival By The Sea wax is a blend of salty mist of the sea, popcorn, sweet treats of the carnival and a hit of watermelon. My nose primarily picks up the sea mist scent (typical ocean like scent with a salty kick) and buttery popcorn. The watermelon comes out a bit more while it’s melting.

This is a collaboration scent with Fat Cat Pawlished and she’s carrying the Body Mist in the matching scent.

August 2019 Polish Pickup | At The Carnival

This is pretty much a flakie lovers month. 80% of the polishes I received had flakes in them to some degree. While there is a nice selection of colors, blue and purple reigned supreme this month.
